West Chicago Fire Protection District Accepting Applications for Fire & Life Safety Inspector 09/06/2024

The West Chicago Fire Protection District is seeking to fill the position of Fire and Life Safety Inspector.

Responsibilities include conducting inspections, reviewing plans, and delivering safety presentations. Ideal candidates should have some fire code knowledge, experience in related fields, and strong interpersonal skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Starting salary is $72,000 with great benefits. Applications are being accepted through Monday, September 30.

Ice Cream Social Fundraiser: A Sweet Way to Support Local History 09/05/2024

Join the West Chicago Historical Society/Kruse House Museum this Saturday, September 7th, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Kruse House Garden (527 Main Street) for their annual Ice Cream Social!🍦🌸

Enjoy unlimited ice cream and homemade desserts for just $5. Additionally, there will be a pie auction, a fall mum sale, and chances to win prizes! Also, event-goers will have the opportunity to view and take photos with one of the life-sized Olmec sculptures that will only be on display for a few more weeks within the garden.

This is truly a sweet event for all community members to enjoy with all funds collected being put towards Kruse House Museum repairs.

Mosquito Control Spraying Scheduled for Tonight 09/04/2024

Mosquito control spraying will take place this evening, Wednesday, September 4, in the West Chicago Mosquito Abatement District, weather permitting. Clarke, the District’s service contractor, will perform the spraying between dusk and 3 a.m.

Most spray applications will be completed using vehicles equipped with ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayers and GPS-based application technology. The GPS technology allows Clarke to track exactly when and where spraying occurs, so you can verify if your area was treated. Clarke is also transitioning its fleet to electric vehicles, which makes the process quieter and less visible.

The trail stretches from the Kruse House Museum to the West Chicago Public Library and ends at Reed-Keepler Park, making it a perfect stroll for a bit of culture and fun.

Monthly Brush Collection Begins Week of September 3 08/29/2024

Brush collection pickup begins next week on Tuesday, September 3.

As a reminder, brush collection does not coincide with regular garbage pickup days. Residents may place brush out up to two days prior to the first collection date, but placing brush earlier than this may result in a fine.

Back-to-School Tax Credits Available to Parents & Teachers 08/28/2024

The City of West Chicago Government encourages residents and teachers to take advantage of available tax credits for back-to-school supplies through the Illinois Department of Revenue. For 2024, Illinois parents can claim a 25% credit on school expenses over $250 (up to $750) and teachers can claim up to $500 for classroom supplies.

The City of West Chicago Government invites residents to review and comment on the Environmental Review for the $2 million grant-funded redevelopment of the former Kerr-McGee site into a Community Park.

Environmental Review documents are available online and at City Hall, and comments may be submitted online or in person at City Hall. All comments will remain anonymous.

The review period is open until Friday, September 13. This is a crucial opportunity for community members to assess and provide feedback on the environmental impact and any necessary mitigation measures.

The City of West Chicago Government is pleased to congratulate Kelley Chrisse, our Economic Development Coordinator, on earning the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation from the International Economic Development Council. This prestigious certification represents the gold standard in economic development professional development.

Kelley’s dedication to her field continues to be a tremendous asset to both the City and the community, and we are proud of her achievement—great job, Kelley!

West Chicago’s Kelley Chrisse earns Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation from the International Economic Development Council. CEcD is the gold standard for professional development in the field of Economic Development.

The Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce was thrilled to acknowledge Kelley’s milestone achievement. Pictured is Chamber CEO David Sabathne presenting her with a plaque during an Economic Development Commission meeting. Sabathne stated “We are proud to join the City of West Chicago Government in congratulating Kelley on earning the CEcD designation.”

Recently, the and City of West Chicago Government staff took an educational tour of the Groot Industries transfer station in and their recycling facility in Elk Grove Village. It was an eye-opening experience that provided all attendees with valuable insights into how West Chicago’s waste and recycling are managed while also sparking new ideas for enhancing sustainability within the . 🌱🔄🌍

A big thanks to all the City’s commissioners who generously volunteer their time for the community, especially our Environmental Commission, which plays a key role in maintaining West Chicago’s commitment to a greener future!

The US National Weather Service Chicago Illinois has issued an excessive heat warning that will continue through 10 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, August 27 with peak heat index values up to 115°F.

During this extreme heat wave, please make sure to practice heat safety with the following tips:

✅Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible if working outside.
✅Check on elderly, sick, and those without air conditioning.
✅Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, always look before you lock.
✅Limit any strenuous outdoor activity, find shade, and stay hydrated. Heat-related illnesses may develop in fewer than 30 minutes after strenuous outdoor activity.

💧 Also, as many of us can avoid the heat by staying indoors, help to those who can’t. If you’re able, please consider keeping a cooler filled with cold water bottles to offer to those working outdoors.

Nomination Packets for the 2025 Consolidated Election 08/23/2024

The 2025 Consolidated General Election will be held on April 1, 2025. Nomination packets are available at West Chicago City Hall, 475 Main Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Completed packets must be filed with the Executive Office Manager from November 12 to 18, 2024, by 4:30 p.m. Offices will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on the last day of filing.

Positions up for election include Mayor and Aldermen for all seven wards.

To help students start the school year fully prepared, the City of West Chicago Government donated custom West Chicago folders and collected a ton of school supplies through personal donations from our staff for the WeGo Together for Kids Event.

WeGo Together for Kids is a cornerstone of our community, and we’re deeply grateful for the work put into this amazing annual event and ongoing support for our students and the broader community. A special thanks to Molly Beck Dean for her unwavering commitment as the Director of this incredible organization!🙏

In celebrating our fantastic community organizations, while delivering the City’s donations, Dan Peck, our Marketing and Communications Manager, also had the pleasure of connecting with the wonderful Director of Casa Michoacán DuPage, Jose Luis “Pepe” Gutierrez. Their meeting, which included a tour of the beautiful facility at 900 Roosevelt Road, also explored opportunities for future collaboration and ways to further support the organization’s initiatives. 🤝🌟

The City is extremely proud of all the remarkable organizations that make West Chicago so special. Today, local government workers across the nation are celebrating public service and pride with selfies in front of their municipal buildings. Here in West Chicago, we’re taking it up a notch by highlighting the incredible creativity of our community!

Despite the rainy weather this morning, City of West Chicago Government staff stepped out for a special photo-op with one of the amazing sculptures from the Mexican Cultural Center-DuPage’s Olmec Trails: Culture & Legacy exhibit, currently on display at the West Chicago Historical Society/Kruse House Museum.

All Water Customers Requested to Complete Important Survey 08/13/2024

Help keep West Chicago’s water safe by completing the 2024 Cross-Connection Control Survey.

All residential, commercial, and multi-tenant facility water customers will receive a postcard from Backflow Solutions, Inc. (BSI) with details, or may visit the City’s website to take the brief survey.

This survey helps identify potential contaminants in public water systems and is required to be completed every three years by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
