Today’s post is our final patient case on intraventricular tumors. This tumor differs from our previously reviewed case because of its location. Although it still interrupts the flow of CSF and requires removal. Dr. Engh will review how this surgery differs from our other case based on tumor location.

This image is of the patient’s brain prior to surgery. Note the tumor is circled in red and the darker areas surrounding it is swelling of the brain tissue. Over the next few posts we will be reviewing a unique brain tumor case. Dr. Johnathan Engh, our neurosurgeon, and Dr. Andrew Weisinger, our anesthesiologist, will be discussing the removal of a brain tumor in a patient who is a Jehovah’s Witness. This means the patient declines blood products in any situation, including the operating room. We will be releasing the first video discussing this case on Thursday. Brain metastasis is cancer that has spread from somewhere else in the body to the brain. One of the most common forms of treatment for this is called stereotactic radiosurgery or SRS. This is a concentrated form of radiation treatment that focuses on treating the brain tumor versus radiating the entire brain. These images are of brain metastasis prior to and after surgery. If you are interested in learning more about this patient’s case look out for Dr. Engh’s video coming later this week!
