This graduation season, we’d like to celebrate the achievements of one of our patients. Joe just graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from Clemson University, with plans to pursue a PhD. His hard work and determination inspire us all, and we know Joe will continue to shine as he pursues his goals! Join us in congratulating Joe on this major accomplishment! 🎓

Last weekend, Chelsea and Makenzie participated in the 5Kaden along with some of our current and former Sigurd Center patients! This was the 3rd year of the 5K, which raises money for the Jordan Thomas Foundation to provide prostheses to children and adolescents. We are so proud of our therapists and patients for getting out there and “walking the walk”!

To finish out OT month, join us in congratulating one of our OT’s, Taylor, and her husband, Josiah, on the birth of their daughter! Macie Lynn Harper was born on March 8th, weighing 8 lbs, 7.5 oz. We are so thrilled for the Harper family! 🎀

As occupational therapy month continues, the games of Connect Four are getting pretty serious at the OT table! These two patients are working on standing balance and endurance, reaching outside of their base of support, all while thinking about their next move! 🔴⚫️

Okay now things are really getting serious at the OT table for occupational therapy month! These gentlemen are working on their arm strength and endurance, their ability to stand and balance for a prolonged period of time, and thinking about their poker faces as they make wagers with bean bags! Who needs Vegas when you can have just as much fun in therapy at the Sigurd Center! ♠️♥️♣️♦️

The Columbia Great Strides walk, which benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is happening this Saturday, April 20. This cause is near and dear to our hearts because Riley, the oldest son of our OT, Jen, was born with cystic fibrosis. Join us in walking or donate to this great cause!

Jen is keeping the energy going for OT month! Our OT’s are so good at getting creative to target many muscles and skills at the same time! We love to help our patients reach for the stars 💫

April is occupational therapy (OT) month! Jess and this patient are working on a garden bed for the clinic while also focusing on upper extremity weightbearing, standing endurance, balance, and coordination! Projects like this really make patients shine as our occupational therapists help them get back to doing things they love! We can’t wait to see the finished product!

Several of our amazing therapists spent the weekend in Aiken attending a continuing education course where they learned more about upper and lower extremity management. Staying up to date on research and treatment methods helps us serve our patients the best that we can!

The 2024 5Kaden Run/Walk benefitting the Jordan Thomas Foundation will take place on Saturday, April 27th. The Jordan Thomas Foundation provides children living with limb loss and limb difference with the prostheses they need throughout their growing years while serving as a caring resource, advocate and support system for JTF Kids and their families. This 5K honors former Sigurd Center patient, Kaden, and current patient, Carson—who has been working hard with Chelsea in the therapy gym!

Last month, this beloved patient turned 90! We wish him many more happy years 🎉

I am so excited to be celebrating my clinic’s 18-year Anniversary!! I am thankful to the Lord for my father, Sigurd, who is the person responsible for leading me in my faith. I am also so thankful for my husband who always supports me and for my dedicated employees who are more like family. I am blessed to serve the Greater Midlands and Columbia areas doing what I feel is God’s work. A final, and very important set of thank you’s go out to all of our patient’s (past & present), their families, and to all the MD’s who have referred them to us. Please join me in celebrating 18 years in this amazing community.
