About 1 in 20 adults have coronary heart disease. Coronary Heart Disease is the most common type of heart disease, killing 375,476 people in 2021. It is caused by a buildup of fatty deposits, called atheroma, and cholesterol in the walls of the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle. As a result of this buildup, people become extremely more like to fall victim to the ultimate consequence of a heart attack.

One of the first of many caregivers thank you bags! We cannot wait to deliver these to Centra State Medical Center.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 31! I cannot believe this is the last day of Stroke Awareness Month! Stroke recovery is a lifelong process. It takes all of us to help both prevent strokes and help the victims of strokes get back on their feet. I hope these posts have helped to enlighten you about the danger of strokes and the great necessity that exists for people like you and I to step up and combat such a terrible illness.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 30! Today marks the second to last day of Stroke Awareness Month! In the United States, there are over 7 million stroke survivors, the ability for them to survive is based on many factors including lifestyle and genetics. It takes all of us to help combat stroke!

Stroke Awareness Month Day 29! In children and teens, strokes are often the result of health issues like congenital heart defects, sickle cell disease, or blood vessel abnormalities. Strokes know no boundaries, they can affect anyone at any age.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 28! Immediate action is critical: Taking immediate action can help minimize damage to the brain. As stated previously, 2 million brain cells die per minute during a stroke. It is crucial to get professional help when you or someone else is suffering from a stroke.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 27 and Happy Memorial Day!! Too much plaque and fat in the blood can lead to blood clots, which can cause a stroke. Plaque forms in blood vessels, or arteries, when cholesterol, fat, and calcium build up in the inner lining of the artery wall.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 26! Just like a heart attack, a stroke requires immediate medical attention as many brain cells can die or become damaged during a stroke. Some brain cells die because they stop getting the oxygen and nutrients needed to function. Other brain cells die because they are damaged by sudden bleeding in or around the brain.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 25! Although the risk of stroke increases with age, it can still occur at any age. Always encourage young and old friends and family members to be wary of their health!

Stroke Awareness Month Day 24! The risk of having a mini-stroke rises with age. The older you get, the more prone to a stroke you become.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 23! Strokes affect people differently depending on which side of the brain is affected.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 22! 1 in 5 women have a stroke at some point in her life. Stroke is the third leading cause of death for women.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 22! Stroke reduces mobility in more than half of stroke survivors age 65 and older. This causes a decrease in a person's overall quality of life.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 20! About 4.7 million stroke survivors are alive today therefore... stroke is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 19! For someone who suffers an ischemic stroke, each hour without treatment ages the brain approximately 3.6 years. Being F.A.S.T can allow a person suffering a stroke to have the ability to have a much easier recovery and move on after such a horrific event.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 18! One study showed that people who have strokes in the night time, compared to those who have strokes in the day time, often have worse neurologic disability.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 17! Not all strokes have visible symptoms. Silent strokes occur when a clot blocks a blood vessel in the brain, but the person experiences no symptoms. Despite this lack of symptoms, silent strokes can cause damage to a small part of the brain. Due to a lack of noticeable symptoms, silent strokes can be difficult to identify.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 16! Each minute after suffering a stroke, a person loses approximately 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) of myelinated fibers.

Stroke Awareness Month Day 15! Many people mistakenly believe that stroke occurs in the heart but it actually takes place in the brain. The brain needs a constant supply of blood to carry the oxygen and nutrients it needs to function. Specific arteries supply blood to specific areas of the brain. A stroke occurs when one of these arteries gets blocked or ruptures. As a result, part of the brain does not get the blood it needs, so it starts to die.
