Custom woodworking on commission. I do custom wood working projects on commission.
I specialise in kitchen items such as cutting boards, charcuterie boards, serving trays, cheese slicers, etc.. I also build furniture, cabinetry, keepsake boxes, humidors, picture frames... just about anything made of wood and will fit in my shop!
Them: I make stuff out of used pallets..
Me: Hold my beer..
I decided to try my hand at building some instrument speaker cabinets...fabricating 34 cabinets for the mini wall of sound motivated me! I wanted them to be clear finished natural wood with no black paint, carpet, or Tolex. This is a 12", rear loaded, open back guitar cabinet inspired by the legendary Mesa Boogie Fillmore. It's constructed from 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood dadoed, rabbited, and glued...finished in a semi gloss spray polyurethane, with a carry handle, rubber feet, and black metal grill and corner protectors. It's loaded with a Celestion Black Shadow 12" speaker, made specifically for Mesa Boogie. 50 watt, 8 ohm. Dual 1/4" parallel input/ output jacks for connectivity. I am currently working on some badging for the speaker cabinet, and have yet to test it out other than to run some radio signal from an old receiver through it to test the driver ... any of my guitar player friends want to test drive this puppy?
I'm also developing plans for a front loaded, sealed back 12" guitar cabinet, and a 15" ported bass guitar cabinet in the same style.
Helped Pete install this beautiful solid curly maple island top in his kitchen this morning. This is replacing a 30 year old laminate version. He accentuated the figure in the maple by applying diluted dark stain and then sanding most of it off ...leaving the deeper stain in the curls. Then it was top coated with a super tough tabletop epoxy by his finisher. Came out perfect!
My vanity came back from the finisher... looks amazing! I love the "Dove White" color. Finished end panel looks perfect, as do the doors and drawfronts. This will sit in the showroom till it's ready to be installed when the bathroom is almost finished. Once installed, we will hang and tweak the doors, install the toe kick and attach the draw fronts. Then it will be templated for the granite top.
One of my trays doing a charcuterie thing...
Last time I was in the shop, this was a pile of plywood. I was away for 2 weekends, and Pete's been very busy. I was polish sanding cabinet doors for two days last Friday and Saturday.. and I will be doing more of that this Saturday!
It's always awesome to see something that you worked on, that was a bunch of drawings, become actual things..a satisfying thrill my whole career doing design drafting work.. whether it's cabinets, kitchens, buildings, interiors, or small projects.. that's the thrill that never gets old!
How we used to do it before 3D CAD...2 point perspective rendering.
Sides for cabinet "L"...
15 sheets of plywood + 2 guys x 3.5 hours = parts for a 19 box kitchen. Special appearance by my bathroom vanity in the background 🤣
Mmmmm... soft close!
The vanity is almost complete! The doors, draws and carcass are all polish sanded to 150, and Pete drilled for the door hinges and installed the undermount soft close draw slides. This will be headed to the finisher soon to be painted Dove white!
My process..🤣
BB's getting a bath!
Couple of basic bi***es in the oven..2 side grain stripers... maple, cherry and a splash of walnut!
Doing a complete "rip out to the framing" renovation of my bathroom! Started on the new vanity..of course the master is "helping" me ( more like I'm helping him lol) design and build it. It's going to be larger than the current single 30" vanity. 43", adding 3 draws to the left side to take up the current empty space. Mission style frame and panel doors and draw fronts with a slight bevel on the inside edge of the frames. Soft close undermount draw slides and door hinges, and a tip out panel in front of the sink for toothbrushes! Finished in Dove white and topped with an Absolute Black granite vanity top, with a white, rectangular undermount porcelain sink. This will match the 12x12 Absolute Black tile floor. Hopefully, the reno will be underway next month.
All done! I like the experiment combo cheese slicer/ charcuterie board.. came out nice..I will have to try one in end grain!
Bath time...
This cherry is so happy it didn't end up in the burn pile, it's smiling at me!
Lots of stripes! Using some cherry rescued from the burn pile...too nice to use as fuel. Doing a hybrid charcuterie board with a built in cheese slicer bump out. Also a first glue up on an endgrain checkerboard cutting board.
I have reached 300 followers! Thank you for your continued support. I could not have done it without each of you. 🙏🤗🎉
Boat for sale.. needs a little work..
It's starting to look alot like a kitchen...
Another Saturday at Morris Woodworking . Today's itinerary was cut 12 sheets of very nice Canadian maple ply into a kitchens worth of cabinet parts. So close.. we were 3 sheets short... but this kitchen is one step closer to completion! Face frames, and door/drawfronts are done.. soon boxes will be machined and assembled.
Spending a few days working at the cabinet shop on the next kitchen. Pete put together the face frames and doors/drawfronts... today we drum sanded the pile of 40+ doors/drawfronts..my eyes feel like they have gravel in them!
Fabricated some signage for my companies new offices! The signs are made from a 2 tone acrylic..a red cap layer and a white base layer. The laser burns through the cap layer, revealing the white base layer. Mounted the acrylic to 3/4" plywood as a standoff for some shadow lines on the bigger logo signs. The NY one needed to be larger so I mounted it on some 1/2" melamine. Also did a couple smaller signs for the side entrances.
You should have seen what it looked like before I organized it...
Hanging at the cabinet shop this morning. I didn't have anything to do with either of these projects, but wanted to show off the craftsmanship of Peter Westerberg Woodworking. A beautiful desk in maple that's stained autumn haze with a semi gloss top coat, and an art piece that was made from an unfinished project left by his recently deceased partner for his wife. It was originally going to be a fold out desk.. parts of it will become a desk, but this section is now wall art. Made from Bubinga and Curly Maple, finished in gloss lacquer.
