329.35 miles in 7 days, 8 hours and 45 mins. Solo and unsupported.
Last 72 miles was a 36 hour push with no sleep.
That’s it folks - it’s done. Gonna take some time to process this one. The trip turned into something much greater and far more demanding than expected.
It never ceases to amaze me what our bodies are capable of once we decide to do it. Life often comes down to a choice of where to place our energy. Are we going to focus on pain or progress? We can’t do both.
It’s wild where your mind goes during times of extreme stress. There were many moments throughout the trip where I was plugged into something greater than myself. Sometimes it’s called the “Third Man Factor”. Basically, there is some kind of presence that provides guidance and support during times of extreme stress or trauma. There is no doubt it helped me through numerous points and especially the last 36 hours.
Miles 295 - 320 were especially difficult as injuries caused me to slow my pace dramatically. With temps of 95-100, I was quickly running out of water and time. It was the guidance of this Third Man that convinced me to take a chance, try a different course, and focus on making progress (not the pain).

The first steps of a several hundred mile solo and unsupported training trek across the desert. Trying out some new gear and new ways to approach longer crossings. Only one way to learn and that’s by stepping into the fire. Interested to see how my body holds up over the next week.

Many thanks and congratulations to Sydney Swans for having us over watch their historic 205 to 34 win over West Coast at Sydney Cricket Ground (Sydney, Australia). This win was a rare surpassing of 200 points in Aussie rules football and tied the Swans largest margin of victory in club history. A truly historic night!
Didn’t have time to make it into the mountains today so banged out Zone 3 medium pack carries (in my climbing boots) on the stair master. If it looks boring and slow, try it for 1.5 hours…riveting and fun stuff….haha. All part of the journey.

Awesome time last night at the screening of Ground Swell: The Other Side of Fear. Big congrats to and his entire team plus Sam Pontrelli and the Monster Energy family for an incredible movie. Truly inspiring to see these athletes recognize but consistently push through fear to bring out their best performances. Check it out in theaters starting January 20, 2023. Well done!
It’s important to understand the difference between what we can do and should do. While it’s necessary to push our limits and abilities from time to time, most consistent growth is made well within our capabilities.

It’s important to understand the difference between having control and being “in control”. The more “in control” of ourselves we are, the less control we feel we need to have over outside people and factors.

Important to always take the time to thank all those that protect the freedoms afforded in our lives, but especially today. Thank you for your sacrifices and all you’ve done.
Had some time to kill so practiced a couple soft field landings (landing on rear gear while keeping nose wheel off runway) while also landing on a set point. The addition of a nice crosswind made it all the more “fun”. Always good to keep the skills up; never know when they will be needed. Always be ready.

Training While Sick: More times than not, it’s better to get something in. General rule of thumb is that if it’s contained in the “head up” area, less need to alter training. If in the “body”, may want to consider dialing back volume some but keep intensity up.

Deep down, we all crave challenges. It may not always seems/feel like it, especially when we are feeling down or upset, but we all desire to work hard and overcome obstacles. This is how we are made. Our job is to recognize that; ignore the false narratives we tell ourselves; and get on with it. We will feel better 100% of the time.
When we feel especially stressed to do “more”, it’s generally time to focus on the quality of our output and not the quantity.

Having too many priorities or ones that are non-congruent is nearly as bad as not having any. The bigger the goal or higher the stakes, the more we must specify our priorities. It’s very easy to unintentionally create competing priorities that, when pursued in tandem, will result in reduced progress or stagnation.

During these times when we are bent on focusing on our differences and who is “right/wrong” or “good/bad”, it’s important to remember that there was a time when we truly understood that we were “one”. United for a cause and supportive of each other, there was a time we truly understood that are similarities were more important than our differences and that there was a way to come together to connect, heal and grow. We will never forget that who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 or the ones who gave it on or because of this date trying to help.

Each workout, my glutes are firing a little better after recent pull. Starting to have more confidence in them. Good to video sets to make real-time adjustments. Noticed I was a touch high and a little unstable with weight through feet. Made the changes and felt much stronger and more stable as I went up from 315lb to heavier sets.
