Whether an animal protein or vegetables, roasting really is the original healthy, “set it and forget it” meal. Well - please don’t forget it.
Once properly seasoned let it do its thing for 40 -70 minutes (depending) and your house is filled with the best aromas.
Recently a friend asked me if I had any acupuncture referrals for Montreal. Initially, I did not. However, my friend and mentors responded.
I now have 5 what seems to be excellent referrals for acupuncturists in Montreal. One from a friend who has been treated by the person for 20-years. One, a fellow practitioner from the Electro Acupuncture Institute, and three referrals from the fantastic Dr. Poney Chiang at Neuro-Meridian Acupuncture
If you need referrals for Montreal, please contact me. ❤️🙏
Healthy & Crave-worthy can also be sexy. This roasted golden and red beet salad is an explosion of color and makes for a spectacular center piece to any lunch, dinner, or catered party.
Sweet and earthy roasted beets with just the right amount of creamy goat cheese, candied pecans, tart and sweet blackberries, on a bed of beet greens and arugula, with an orange and champagne vinaigrette.
Tart. Sweet. Fruity. Earthy. Tangy. Crunchy.
It hits all the marks and it is as satisfying as it is nutritious.

It is no secret. Not to scientists, and if we are honest, even to ourselves. "Our diet" is the cause of much of our long term, chronic illnesses.
I still promote an 80/20% focus: 80% highly healthy diet which is vegetable centric - and 20% other. And sadly, refined sugar just isn't good for you. So enjoy it when you do have - just eat less.
Eat less highly and ultra processed food.
Eat less refined sugars. Avoid high fructose syrups.
Eat more quality fats (olive oil #1), and no hydrogenated oils.
Here is ONE MORE (of many) research papers.
Ultra-processed food exposure and adverse health outcomes: umbrella review of epidemiological meta-analyses Objective To evaluate the existing meta-analytic evidence of associations between exposure to ultra-processed foods, as defined by the Nova food classification system, and adverse health outcomes. Design Systematic umbrella review of existing meta-analyses. Data sources MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, an...
Class #1 of my Neurology for Acupuncturists class is in the books (3rd time teaching this class). I am scheduled to present Part #2, Neurogenerative Disorders, April 14. In the past I kept to the most common neurodegenerative disorders of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and (Lewy Body) Demetia.
But this recent articles inspires me to dedicate an hour to the topic of ALS ( amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
“The findings add to mounting evidence suggesting a link between ALS and exposure to environmental toxins.”

Golf, and other men's hobbies, drive a 300% increase in ALS risk Men who engage in recreational activities such as golf, gardening and woodworking are at higher risk of developing ALS, an incurable progressive nervous system disease, a study has found. The findings add to mounting evidence suggesting a link between ALS and exposure to environmental toxins.

The New Science on What Ultra-Processed Food Does to Your Brain Studies are finding links between these foods and changes in the way we learn, remember and feel.
Cooking at home and knowing your ingredients is always better than eating questionably sourced or prepared, or highly processed foods. So, even though these dishes may have a little too much fat or sugar, they can be thoroughly enjoyed on occasion and special occasions. Special food for special guest. CRAZY good!
Fresh caught cabrilla, pan seared, served with whipped potatoes and steamed broccoli with a sauce of pan juices, lemon butter and capers. Romaine salad with blue cheese vinaigrette.
Dessert: Homemade Apple tart tatin with homemade pate sucree (sweet short crust).
Yes, it’s a Friday night. Researching, editing, rewriting a class presentation for Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine doctoral class which I have named “Neurology for Acupuncturists”. Presenting research, theory, acupuncture methods, with the understanding of neurology, Neuro anatomy, and neuroscience. Easy peasy, right? Now into a deep dive on neurotransmitters, Neuro hormones, and neuromodulators.
And you all thought I was just pretty 🤦♂️

I was reminded by this post by TrainBloom (see comment section for the post) (https://www.instagram.com/trainbloom?igsh=NzBmMjdhZWRiYQ== ) that our bodyweight and composition is more related to the sum what we do outside the gym, rather than equating food calories intake to gym exercise calories output, while inside the gym.
However, exercise inside and outside the gym and total movement will dictate our lean muscle, which then directly affects our resting metabolic rate - which is 50-70% of our burned calories.
A big take away with this, is do not punish yourself at the gym for that slice or two of pizza that you ate.
Not to disrespect the butterflied and pounded chicken breasts with sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella and pecorino, with capellini with pan juices, white wine lemon and garlic; but the first test run of a “cappuccino” panna cotta with a soft whipped and sweetened cream - was INTENSE!!!
COVID studies continue to point to blood clotting (long covid: micro clotting).
Long Covid explanation in new study possibly paves way for tests and treatments — NBC News Scientists say that drugs that calm a key part of the immune system should be studied in clinical trials as potential long Covid treatments.
Can you guess the diagnosis? I was nose to nose with the doctor’s steps until the finish line.
Severe leg pain. Fatigue. Petechiae. On an otherwise healthy and active 50/year old woman.
What’s the diagnosis? 🤔🤷♂️
Healthy and Crave Worthy! One of my favorite types of challenges.
At a friends home. He offered to give me a package of smoked salmon because he didn’t know what to do with it and didn’t like the idea of eating it plain.
So, up for a challenge, I opened the fridge to see what he had available and I composed this:
- smoked salmon
- artichoke dip with garlic and Parmesan
- cherry tomatoes
- Persian cucumbers
- small butter leaf lettuce
- pistachios (he at the end asked If we could add these - which was a perfect idea)
80/20
Do your best to add more things from the earth, and remove something that comes in a shelf stable box.

Our Story
After 20-years of practice, in May, 2019 I received my doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and simultaneously achieved the inaugural certificate in Neuro-Acupuncture from the Neuro Acupunture Institute (NAI) from Drs. Jason and Linda Hao of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Research and recent developments in acupuncture for neurologic conditions of the central (and peripheral) nervous system have shown that neuro-acupunture can have a profound and notable benefit. Witnessing live treatments at the Neuro Acupuncture training, and with my own patients in private practice and at Yo San University’s Blount community clinic as part of my doctoral rounds, and as a key component of my IRB approved, doctoral clinical trial testing combined scalp and ear acupuncture for symptoms and biomarkers of depression, have proven to me and my patients the remarkable results. My patients have included those with Parkinson’s with physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms; chromosomal defect (St. George’s Syndrome) affecting digestion, emotions, and mental focus; and stroke patients, cerebral palsy, post herpetic neuralgia, leg edema, depression, anxiety.
My general practice, including 35-years of body work, continues to include a broad variety of general conditions including pain conditions, sports injuries, repetitive motion or static positional injuries; chronic pain; surgery prevention, post surgical recovery, and acupuncture detoxification (NADA protocol) and post-traumatic stress.
My professional affiliations include the Neuro Acupuncture Institute (Santa Fe, NM) and Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB), with whom I participated in 2017 in a healers exchange and educations trip to Israel.
