OPENING TODAY • ETHAN COOK•
Entities
BRUSSELS | ALLARD 25
May 26 - July 20, 2023
Man’s soul is, in a certain way, entities.
-Aristotle
Nino Mier Gallery is pleased to present Entities, an exhibition by New York-based artist Ethan Cook. In Entities, Cook develops the rigorously structured approach to artmaking that has come to define his paintings, sculptures, and works of paper over the last decade. The works feature new materials and surface qualities while experimenting with logics of geometric proportion and color. The artist’s fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, Entities will be on view in Brussels from May 26 – July 20, 2023.
OPENING TODAY • FALK GERNEGROß •
Le pique-nique
BRUSSELS | ALLARD 41
May 26 - July 20, 2023 • Nino Mier Gallery is pleased to present Le pique-nique, an exhibition of paintings by German artist Falk Gernegroß. The artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, Le pique-nique features fifteen new works, offering a panoramic view of the artist’s approach to painting – from sultry absurdism to irreverent eroticism, renaissance figuration to Pl***oy pin-ups, close-cropped anatomy to full-scale genre scenes. The exhibition opens on May 26th and will remain on view through July 20, 2023.
Gernegroß paints teasingly, most often representing his subjects out of context against monochromatic backdrops. Despite the artist’s cropping techniques, each figure has a strong sense of individuality and character cultivated both by what is represented within the composition and what is strategically obfuscated from it. What the works withhold, precede, and wink at is their point; synecdochally or overtly, Gernegroß’s work invades otherwise chaste white-cube environments, disarming taboo and disregarding modesty and privacy.
OPENING FRIDAY • ETHAN COOK • ENTITIES | NINO MIER GALLERY | BRUSSELS •
Nino Mier Gallery is pleased to present Entities, an exhibition by New York-based artist Ethan Cook. In Entities, Cook develops the rigorously structured approach to artmaking that has come to define his paintings, sculptures, and works of paper over the last decade. The works feature new materials and surface qualities while experimenting with logics of geometric proportion and color. The artist’s fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, Entities will be on view in Brussels from May 26 – June 16, 2023.
For years, Cook has produced his hand-woven paintings on a four-harness loom, foregoing traditional oil or acrylic paints for textile. Here, the laborious and handmade feel of the woven sections come into contrast with the industrial sleekness of copper and aluminum. Given the reflective qualities of copper and aluminum, the works transform depending on lighting and environmental conditions, introducing a sense of chance within Cook’s otherwise precise command over color.

The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza is presenting the first retrospective on André Butzer (born Stuttgart, Germany, 1973) to be held outside the artist’s native country. Coinciding with the artist’s fiftieth birthday, it presents a selection of 22 works created between 1999 and 2022, including some of Butzer’s most iconic paintings, and reveals the scope of his pictorial experience. Among the works on display are two that were recently added to the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection: Aladdin and the Magic Oil Lamp (2010) and Untitled (2022).
Curated by the Museo Thyssen’s artistic director Guillermo Solana in close collaboration with the painter’s studio, this monographic exhibition of Buzter’s career launches a new series of exhibitions on artists represented in the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. These will be presented in the new exhibition’s space on the museum’s first floor.
Excited to participate for the first time
Happy Birthday Ethan Cook !

Polly Borland is one of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists. Her surreal imaginings, equally strange and compelling, revel in playful potentials of composition and the body.
‘BOD’ is Borland’s first foray into sculpture, bringing to life the abstract forms of her iconic series ‘Morph’, 2018. The large-scale cast aluminium figure, finished in matte automotive paint, embraces a new sculptural potential of the artist’s original abstracted portraits. ‘BOD’s soft and fleshy allure belies the sculpture’s resolute solidity.
