Hello Parents/Guardians & Community Members
As you know, West Islip is facing a 3.4 million dollar cut to our education aid based on the Governor's initial executive budget proposal. We have been encouraged by the recent bipartisan efforts to restore this funding by the Senate and Assembly, especially the advocacy from our local representatives: Senator Alexis Weik, Senator Monica Martinez, and Assemblyman Michael Durso. I was able to attend a rally for public education this weekend where many West Islip staff members were present and representing our district! There is still time to advocate prior to the Governor's final budget in April, as it will have a direct impact on our school district budget here in West Islip and budgets across Long Island.
Many parents/guardians and community members have asked how they can continue to advocate for this potential loss of funding. We will be hosting a letter writing campaign this Wednesday from 3pm-4pm and from 7pm-8pm in the West Islip High School Cafeteria. Anyone interested in supporting these efforts can show up during one of those times and we will have a letter printed for you, as well as a stamped envelope available that we will mail on your behalf!
Not able to make the event? Feel free to print one of the attached letters and mail it to the following address:
The Honorable Kathy Hochul
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224
As always, we appreciate your partnership and advocacy!
All the best,
Paul Romanelli
Superintendent of Schools
