Our annual CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) Officer Awards Luncheon was held on June 12th. This year, topics of discussion included the 988 National Su***de and Crisis Lifeline and our QRT (Quick Response Team) and MYRSS (Mobile Response Support Services - Youth Focused) Grants through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Our contact providers, TCN Behavioral Health and Coleman Health Services, shared grant updates.

This year's awards were presented to Officer Tristin Williams of the Urbana Police Department and Officer Tyler Simpson of the Bellefontaine Police Department. Both officers were exemplary in ensuring that residents of their communities experiencing a mental health crisis were connected to behavioral health services. We are thankful for their service and partnership in ensuring that those who need care reach care.

The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the TCN Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Center for providing us with varying sizes of clothing items as well as hygiene kits. During investigations it sometimes becomes necessary to collect a victim's clothing for evidentiary purposes and the need arises to provide the victim with comfortable clothing to wear in exchange. These seemingly small details and comforts that could be easy to overlook from an outside perspective can make a big difference to a victim experiencing a traumatic event.

TCN provides a 24/7 Crisis Line (877) 394-1046 and has many resources including possible shelter placement, legal advocacy support, and counseling.
As always if you need emergency assistance, please dial 911.

WHAT WE DO: FOCUS ON COMMUNITY CARE

The focus of the Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services Board is to provide the right care for the people of our two counties. The Board does this by planning, developing, monitoring, and evaluating the publicly funded behavioral health services for the citizens in Logan and Champaign Counties. Our goal is for the care to be provided in our communities when at all possible. The Board works with local community mental health and chemical dependency providers, law enforcement, court systems, schools, and other community organizations to fund the programs that will provide the needed level of care.

In spite of cuts in State and Federal funding the Board has been able to help maintain current services available in the community. The Board has been able to do this even though 75% of the boards in the state have higher funding levels. We do this by working closely with our community providers to ensure that they provide quality care to all clients.

Behavioral Health disorders affect 1 out of every 5 Americans and occur across the lifespan affecting persons of all races, all genders, and all educational and socioeconomic groups. Mental illness is not that different from medical illnesses such as heart problems or diabetes. With treatment things get better, but without treatment the consequences of ignoring physical or mental health issues are the same, things will get worse. Ignoring a mental health issue is as detrimental as ignoring a physical issue.
