"Chief Jim Finch is a member of the “NewDay USA 5” Leadership Development Team, focusing on Character-Driven Leadership. He served more than 28 years in the U.S. Air Force, including tours as the Commandant of the Pacific Air Force’s NCO Academy in Alaska and the Command Chief Master Sergeant for Air Combat Command.

In 1999, he became the 13th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force—the highest enlisted level of Air Force leadership. As such, he provided direction for nearly 450,000 members of the Air Force enlisted corps and their families, representing their interests to the American public and to those at all levels of government.

Chief Finch was also the personal advisor to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Air Force Chief of Staff regarding the welfare, readiness, proper utilization, and training of the enlisted force. After retiring from active duty, he has worked in a variety of high-level senior executive positions. He also serves on boards for several nonprofit organizations supporting the military community.

On Memorial Day, we come together to honor those who have given their lives for our country and our Gold Star families who have sacrificed so much for our nation.

We take this day to recognize the true cost of freedom.

“Master Chief Vince Patton is a member of the NewDay USA 5 Leadership Development Team focusing on Character Driven Leadership. He served as the 8th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard from May 1998 until his retirement from more than 30 years of active service in November 2002. In this position, he was the senior enlisted advisor to the Commandant of the Coast Guard, with a primary focus on quality of life issues, career development, work environment, and personnel matters affecting over 45,000 active duty, reserve, and civilian personnel service-wide.

His illustrious career included staff and operational assignments both afloat and ashore throughout the United States along with a joint military service assignment in Cuba and Haiti.

After retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard in 2002, he has held a variety of senior executive-level positions and roles in academia. He currently serves on boards for several public service and nonprofit organizations and is the national commander and president for the Non-Commissioned Officers Association.”

"A member of the ‘NewDay USA 5’ Character-Driven Leadership development team, Master Chief Jim Herdt served 35 years in the U.S. Navy, with the final four years of his career achieving the position as the 9th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. In this position, he was responsible for leading program and policy development, representing an enlisted force of over 400,000 personnel and their families as the senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations. He has also held high visibility command enlisted advisor assignments both afloat and ashore throughout the latter part of his military career.

After retiring in 2002, Master Chief Herdt founded Herdt Consulting, Inc., a full-service business transformation consulting company designed to help organizations become more productive and successful by leveraging enterprise resource programming, using predictive analysis, managing large data and employing robust cyber security. He remains actively involved with the military community through board membership with the U.S. Navy Memorial and is vice chairman of the Association for the U.S. Navy."

"Sergeant Major Jack Tilley served as the 12th Sergeant Major of the Army from June 2000 until his retirement of more than 36 years of active service in June 2004, and is now part of the ‘NewDay USA 5’ Character Driven Leadership Development Team.

Sergeant Major Tilley was the Army Chief of Staff's personal advisor on all enlisted-related matters, particularly in areas affecting soldier training and quality of life that impacted over 1,000,000 active duty, reserve personnel, and their families. His illustrious career included staff and operational assignments throughout the United States and overseas along with a joint military service assignment to the U.S. Central Command; combat tours in Vietnam and Bosnia; with multiple battlefield visits in Afghanistan and Iraq.

After retirement from the U.S. Army in 2004, he has held employment in a variety of senior executive-level positions and currently serves as a board member on several public service and nonprofit organizations, including co-chairman of the American Freedom Foundation which supports the military community and their families. He is also the author of his book titled, “A Soldier’s Life.”

“Sergeant Major McMichael served over 36 years of active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 2006, and is now part of the ‘NewDay USA 5’ Character Driven Leadership Development team. He was appointed as the 14th Sergeant Major of the United States Marine Corps on 30 June 1999. His last assignment prior to retirement was becoming the first senior noncommissioned officer for Allied Command Operations to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (NATO). As a public speaker whose primary focus is leadership development, management, coaching and positive citizenship, he is author of “Leadership: Achieving Life-Changing Success from Within.”

Sergeant Major McMichael is also founder and president of ‘4-DREW’, a nonprofit organization providing leadership and mentor counseling for schools and children to have a better understanding for the need to pursue excellence in all endeavors of life.

In addition, he also serves on numerous nonprofit boards including PlayWorks, Thanks USA, Call of Duty Endowment and Operation VetsHaven.”

👉 Lionel had the opportunity to serve a veteran and single mother who was struggling with overwhelming debt and financial hardship. It was a combination of:

1. Overwhelming outstanding credit card debt
2. Personal loans she took out to pay for her mother's funeral
3. Her daughter's expenses just to get into college

It was getting to the point that she needed her 17-year-old daughter to help make ends meet in her mortgage payments. As a result of this overwhelming financial hardship, she was going to stop making her mortgage payments and go into forbearance.

She was very nervous throughout the process. Lionel assured that her trust in NewDay USA would not be misplaced, and they’d be able to set-up a plan for consolidating her debt and lowering monthly payments with a VA refinance loan that she deserved.

The most rewarding part was that after their conversation, our veteran sent Skyla a detailed email expressing his gratitude and how he felt like the most important person to work with while they were on the call together 💌

Skyla says that this example of the impact we can have on someone's life by simply listening and caring is the most powerful experience she has had with a customer at NewDay USA to date.

🏡 As a Senior Assistant Vice President at NewDay USA, Alec LaSalle finds the opportunity to make a big impact on the lives of Veteran families an invigorating and inspiring experience.

🎁 One of his proudest moments since joining NewDay USA was helping a Marine Veteran buy a home through our VA home loan program when our selfless Marine was fully convinced he would not qualify.

Due to their unique circumstances, it was unlikely that his children would ever be able to live outside the family home. This home needed to be their forever home.

His large family meant that it needed to be a big one, a home he was afraid he could not afford.

🎉 But, Alec was able to deliver the news that he was pre-approved to buy on his birthday.

Our Marine was able to buy a beautiful five-bedroom home for his family, which included five kids - all of whom had varying levels of disability and would likely need to live in this home forever.

We don't always realize the magnitude of the sacrifices that veterans make both at home and on duty, and the hardships they can endure outside of the military.

Being able to help this family, and hundreds of families like this is something that puts a smile on our faces every time 💪
