After a 69-year-old bicyclist was struck by a van and knocked to the ground, the defendant’s insurance carrier added insult to injury and not only denied his initial claim but dug in their heels when a lawsuit was filed.
That’s when the personal injury attorney who had been handling the case reached out to Firm Partner Joe Landy and asked him to take over the case.
The driver of the van said that our client rode his bicycle into the vehicle, but Joe Landy proved during deposition that his version of the crash defied the laws of physics.

Raised in West Palm Beach, Velasquez is a member of the Palm Beach County Hispanic Bar Association and Palm Beach County Florida Association of Women Lawyers and volunteers her time in support of the nonprofits Latinos in Action, El Sol and Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.

Velasquez’s legal journey began at Florida State University, where she triple-majored in Political Science, International Affairs and Marketing, with a concentration in Professional Sales. She then excelled at St. Thomas University, earning the highest grade in Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiations, making the Dean’s List, and becoming a member of the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court.

The daughter of immigrants, Velasquez prides herself on building positive working relationships with clients and fellow attorneys, and she believes civility should be at the forefront of the legal profession.

For many, yesterday was about the start of the NFL season. The real big event, however, was opening day for High-5 Basketball!
High-5 Basketball is a division of the Boca Hoops Recreation Basketball Program and designed to enable children with disabilities to participate in the game of basketball. Along with a B-Ball Buddy, each athlete learns the skills of basketball along with the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.

“We are always stronger when we stand together,” Managing Partner Gary Lesser told a standing room only crowd of lawyers, judges and community leaders on Wednesday night at the Opening Event of the new Jewish Lawyers Association of Palm Beach County.

Well over 200 lawyers, judges and community leaders were in attendance, including guest speakers West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James and Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz, who presided over the swearing in of the organization’s Executive Officers and Board of Directors.

Gary is the Founder and President of the newly formed organization, which represents Jewish legal professionals who are united in their commitment to the legal profession, support of their Jewish ancestry and the State of Israel and freedom of religious practice.

“History has taught that when antisemitism rears its ugly head, hatred toward others will always follow,” Gary said. “We can come together as Jewish lawyers, judges, friends and allies and make a difference, fight antisemitism and hatred, celebrate our Jewish faith and the fact that this great country allows all of us the great freedom of practicing our faith or whatever religion we follow. We should never take that for granted.”
