With so many unlicensed, not certified, not trained in Manual lymphatic drainage, I love it when i can educate a client on the proper treatment after surgery. Also "Brazilian lymphatic " is NOT truly lymphatic. Yes it moves things around etc, but it's to vigorous to really properly route lymph to the proper lymph pathways. BE EDUCATED. This is NOT lymphatic drainage. This is causing more trauma on top of the trauma your body just went through with surgery. This is painful and unnecessary. Manual lymphatic drainage is gentle and effective. Be advised that I will NOT provide this service. Doing INCISIONAL DRAINAGE has increased risk for infection ( doing this in a non sterile environment ) and increased risk to promote more fibrosis. Doing this type of drainage or squeeze massage, you are by passing your bodies lymphatic system, and when you do this your body will swell even more with in hours and will feel like you need to be "drained" again. Your body is supposed to use its own lymphatic system and help your body absorb the fluids naturally so you can secrete it out. This is also NOT allowed in the state of FL. No LMT, RN, PT, OT, PTA or OTA are within scope of providing this type of drainage. What is and Isn't true Lymphatic
Please be aware of what is and isn't Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Many people use the term "Lymphatic Massage" for any type of treatment done after cosmetic surgery but they clearly have no training in the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system. The manipulation of pushing and forcing fluids out of surgical incisions and re-opening them it's definitely NOT lymphatic drainage. It doesn't involve the lymphatic system AT ALL. This manipulation used as a shortcut bypasses the lymphatic capillaries, lymph nodes and kidneys altogether. This could give an instant relief but eventually the body will create more swelling as a response because this manipulation exacerbates the inflammation. What 's worse, it's the high risk of infection for excreting fluids through the incisions. This is NOT Lymphatic Drainage and this is NOT within the scope of practice for massage therapists in Florida and their licenses should be revoked. Massage Therapists doing this type of manipulation shall be subject to disciplinary action per Florida Statute 480.046 (j). Providers are starting to get disciplinary actions for practicing out of scope in Florida. When it comes to your health and your body, and getting the best results possible of your surgery, please make sure you are getting treated by a well trained specialist in Lymphatic Drainage from a nationwide or worldwide reputable School such as: Academy of Lymphatic Studies, Klose Training, Vodder School, Norton School. Don't look for the cheapest rates, this is your body we are talking about!
