If you spend time at the Armory’s Ceramic Studio, you will likely have met Aya Bendat. Aya has created ceramics here for the last 20 years. 🏺🔥
These photos show a vessel Aya created this summer. She is inspired by archeological and ceremonial pieces, and her work often has metaphorical and mythological roots. She considers each ceramic piece sculptural even when they are functional.
🩷💚💙Next time you visit the studio, say hello to Aya. She advocates for the Armory and is known to nurture and guide new ceramic students in the studio. She is an accomplished 2D and 3D artist. To learn more about Aya and her work, visit ayabendatstudios.com.
Attention artists! We’re on the lookout for talented individuals to create an inspiring mural for Shutts & Bowen LLP in Fort Lauderdale. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your art in a professional setting.

West Palm Beach native Hanna Love says that when you create from a space of joy, you can feel it in the jewelry. Hanna teaches Introduction to Jewelry and Metalsmithing and various jewelry workshops at the Armory. For her, to teach is to learn. Sharing her love of jewelry-making helps her learn about her craft and passion.
Hanna took her first jewelry class at the Armory in 2021. She fell in love with jewelry because of her attraction to crystals. She began making jewelry by wrapping the crystals in wire. Her passion for the craft led her father to build a backyard studio for her. She found healing benefits after a debilitating auto accident when her artistry helped her recover from nerve damage by improving her mind and body communication.
When Hanna isn’t teaching, she creates jewelry to sell at outdoor events, including Clematis by Night and Farmers’ markets. She also works on commissioned, one-of-a-kind, intuitive jewelry.
Hanna teaches that we learn from our mistakes. “As long as you enjoy it, you will keep going back to it.” Her positivity is infectious, so we hope you will join her in the studio and bring more joy to your world.

“As long as you have passion and love what you do, It is a happy moment,” says Zoe Quezada in the jewelry studio at the Armory this week.
Zoe has always loved silver jewelry. She used to buy it, but since she took her first class with Ellen Levy a year and a half ago, she’s made her own. Zoe has studied with several Armory jewelry teachers since, and what she likes most about all the classes is the flexibility—everybody can make the pieces that move them. Zoe advises, “Make what makes you happy!”
Making jewelry is Zoe’s meditation. It’s when time flies. She feels good. She relaxes.
She lays down her file and bracelet and turns to a ring. Shifting her attention gives her a fresh perspective. She believes that practice makes her better, and she learns from her mistakes.
Zoe wants people to know about the Armory’s jewelry studio and teachers. She said, “People need to come out and enjoy life.”

GET A PEEK AT YOUTH ART THIS WEEK AT THE ARMORY
Then and Now was the theme for kids during week 8 of summer art camp. Kids traveled through time to Rome, where they created the city with a touring car and oversized cardboard pizza slices that looked delicious enough to eat. They learned about the ancient Greek Olympics by drawing self-portraits as Olympiads and sculpting clay vases called Amphoras, used to hold water and food.
Teenagers were busy, too, in the Teen Studio Intensives. Watch the end of this video to see a young artist bring a Woolly mammoth to life.
Last week, kids explored the theme of larger-than-life. Collages, handmade books, and fiber art were just some of the mixed-media techniques kids tried.
Debbie O’Hara wedged porcelain tentacles into her sculpture in the ceramic studio last Wednesday. This sculpture will join her collection of mixed-media creatures, including slugs, snails, and crustaceans.
Kids explored art from the Caribbean Island during week 6 of Summer Art Camp. From beaches to coral reefs, kids fell in love with the tropics. And what is the Caribbean without buried treasure? Kids made illustrated maps to guide the intrepid searchers to find their treasures in a scavenger hunt.
