في عام 1833 قام هنري زيغلاند (Henry Ziegland ) بقطع علاقته مع حبيبته، فأصيبت الفتاة بالإحباط وانتـ,ـحرت ، وقد لامت عائلتها هنري واعتبرته المتسبب في موتها، وقام شقيقها بمطاردته بغرض الانتـ,ـقام منه، وبالفعل أطلق النـ,ـار عليه بينما كان جالسا في حديقة منزله، فسقط هنري أرضا مضر,جاً بـ,ـدمه وظن الشقيق الغاضب بأنه أحرز ثأره، وفي لحظة أنفعال صوب المسدس نحو رأسه وأنهي حياته هو الآخر منـ,ـتحراً برصاصة. لكن لسوء حظ الشقيق المنـ,ـتحر فأن هنري لم يمت، فالرصاصة لم تقـ,ـتله ، أصابته بجرح سطحي ثم استقرت داخل جذع شجرة ضخمة تتوسط حديقته.
هنري عاش لسنوات طويلة بعد الحادث، وقد دأب على أن يتفاخر أمام الجميع بقصته وبحظه الخارق الذي أنقذه من موت محتوم. وفي أحد الأيام، أراد هنري إعادة ترتيب وتشذيب حديقة منزله فقرر قطع تلك الشجرة الكبيرة التي استقبلت الرصاصة بدلا عنه قبل سنوات، وبسبب استعجاله وتكاسله، لم يقم بقطع الشجرة بالمنشار وإنما وضع القليل من المتـ,ـفجـ,ـرات في جذعها وقام بنسفها، الغريب أن شدة الانـ,,ـفجار حررت الرصاصة القديمة من جذع الشجرة وقذفتها في الهواء كالصـ,,ـاروخ لتستقر داخل رأس هنري وترديه قتيلا في الحال.
