West Des Moines Community Education works to enhance community life by providing lifelong learning opportunities. Community Education was established in the mid 1970s and has created and/or funded numerous programs and services, and collaborations, including: before and after school programming, adult classes, facility use, service learning, summer programs, and early childhood opportunities.

General information

West Des Moines Community Education consists of the following three components: One, the Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC) consists of involved citzens who identify community needs and initiate action to address those needs. Two, Community Education staff operate programs and provide opportunies that serve identified needs in our community. (i.e. Brighter Beginnings, Facility Use, Iowa Senior Olympics, Intramurals, Kids West, Learnapalooza, LEARNwest, Project Shine, Service Learning, Summer Programs, Wellness, and more). Three, networking and collaboration with other service providers is essential to maximize the use of community resources. (i.e. Network of Community Services, Partnerships with Walnut Creek YMCA, WDM Parks and Recreation, and WDM Human Services).
