REVISED: The plan has been extended till 7AM Thursday, Aug 29th

The Polk County Extreme Temperature Plan will be activated at 7 AM Sunday, August 25 through 7 AM Tuesday, August 27 based on forecast temperatures from the National Weather Service.

Activation of the plan includes:
• weather amnesty at area homeless shelters,
• activation of cooling/warming centers, and
• free access to these locations on DART buses. DART

The Young Women's Resource Center is a safe place that reinforces the beauty, resiliency and strength that these girls and young women already possess. We are happy to count the Young Women’s Resource Center as a Chrysalis Community Partner Grantee. We have selected Young Women's Resource Center to receive a Chrysalis Community Partner Grant because of all the great work they are doing in our community. When Chrysalis provides a Community Partner Grant, we supply so much more than funding. We are extending our support with coaching, teaching, training, building partnerships, and confirmation that funding these organizations is the best investment we can make to make realize our vision: a community of independent and contributing women and girls.

Polk County Supervisor Matt McCoy presented a community development grant on behalf of the Board of Supervisors to the Des Moines Hispanic Educational Resources, Inc.. The funds will be used for necessary mechanical upgrades at their downtown facility. The facility is dedicated to providing early childhood education for the Latino community.
