Teaching design is one of my passions, and aiding clients in this realm brings me immense joy. However, it's crucial to understand that design isn't a rigid black-and-white domain; there are countless gray areas where creativity thrives. While design rules and metrics serve as a solid foundation, they're merely a starting point.

Save this post for future reference! Let's dive into some key aspects:

Curtain Rods: Amid various opinions, a useful guideline is to position the rod at 2/3 of the distance between the window's top and the ceiling. A higher placement can visually enhance both window and wall size. However, remember to consider the window's surroundings and curtain length.

Wainscoting and Wall Accents: Whether working with 7ft or 10ft ceilings, a rule of thumb is to divide the wall into thirds. For classic wainscoting, focus on the bottom 1/3. To make a bolder statement, extend it up to 2/3 of the wall's height.

Artwork Placement: Hanging artwork at approximately 57" above the floor or 6-8" above furniture is a reliable practice. When placing two pieces above a couch, maintain a distance of 3-4" between them, occupying around 2/3 of the couch's width.

Mirrors: Mirrors can pose challenges due to various considerations, yet they significantly impact spaces by reflecting light and expanding perceived room size. Generally, position mirrors at eye level, around 60-65" above the ground. For mirrors above vanities, aim for 5-10" above the faucet, adjusting to your space and style. If mounted above a console table, maintain a 6" gap between the table's top and the mirror's bottom.

Remember, these guidelines provide a strong foundation, but don't hesitate to adapt them to your specific space and aesthetic. Design is your canvas for creative expression! 🎨✨
