In the summer of 2021, Liza suffered a severe injury when she was kicked by a horse, causing her significant pain. Upon further examination, Iowa Clinic trauma surgeon Dr. Peter Tonui, along with staff at Blank Children's Hospital determined that Liza had a grade 4 liver laceration from the impact to her abdomen. Liza's mother, Katie, describes it as the scariest experience of their lives.
Today, Liza has fully recovered and is back in the saddle (literally), thanks to the care provided by Dr. Tonui and the Blank Children's staff. Liza is happy to report that she still rides horses and loves them more than ever!
