Nothing beats the taste of a fragrant perfectly ripe, juicy Alphonso Mango!! ๐Ÿฅญ๐Ÿฅญ NOTHING โœ‹
The best of the best of this variety comes from Devgad and Ratnagiri area in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India.
This variety of mango was introduced through the process of 'Grafting' on mango trees in western India by Portuguese military strategist Afonso de Abluquerqe who was responsible at that time to establish a Portuguese colony in the said region.
The crop took to the soil of this region like fish to water, producing the most exquisite variety of mango and was thus named Alphonso after Afonso de Abluquerqe!! ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ

This word comes from the Portuguese word Beringela. They call it Brinjal in Indian, South Africacan, Malaysian and Singaporean English

2 - Eggplant
The use of this word is common in North America, Australia and New Zealand and can be traced back the fact that early European settler cultivators produced yellow and white varieties of this vegetable that looked like goose or chicken eggs.

3 Aubergine
This is a French word and is commonly used in British English. It is derived from the Catalan language where it's called Alberginia

On the occasion of Vishu, here's a fun fact or rather an interesting mythological story about 'Avial', an important dish adorning the banana leaf as part of the Sadhya, which is a traditional Vegetarian feast served on Onam and Vishu!
Avial, a mild yet delicious and flavourful preparation made with a lot of vegetables in a coconut base, is said to have been a favourite of Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers. The story goes that Kunti invented this dish while in Vanvas (forest exile) to feed her sons. She came up with this dish working with what was readily available in the forest, hence the dish is big on vegetables and low on spice.
Bhima, who had the biggest appetite of them all loved the dish so much that he prepared it when he worked as a cook during the Pandavas's Agyatvas (living ingocnito) for the King of Virata, who loved the dish so much that he made Bhima the head chef of the royal kitchen! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿคฏ
