Some people assume that regular cleanings aren’t important for kids when they still have their baby teeth, but this is not true. Healthy baby teeth allow your child to chew comfortably, aid in speech development, save space in the jaw for permanent teeth, and keep the gums healthy.
Bedtime dental care is important for children because it can help prevent dental disease, which can affect their health, development, and school performance. If left untreated, dental disease can lead to extractions under general anesthetic, which can be distressing for children and families.
Do you supervise your child’s brushing and flossing?
Research shows that consuming fast-foods is linked to health problems like obesity and diabetes. Fast food can also augment your child’s risk of developing cavities and/or gum disease. Ordering a cheeseburger at a fast-food restaurant typically also comes with a sugary soda and starchy fries. The sugars and carbonation in soda break eat away at the enamel of your teeth making them more susceptible to tooth decay and cavities. Along with good oral hygiene, well-balanced diet is the essential for healthy teeth and gums. Learn some tips to help you balance your child’s diet with nutritious, smile-enhancing foods!

Many people wonder, « What is toothpaste made of? » The composition of toothpaste can vary depending on the brand and type, but common ingredients typically include fluoride, mild abrasives, foaming agents, non-drying agents, preservatives, and flavorings. Understanding what is in toothpaste is important since these ingredients work together to clean, protect, and refresh the mouth. So, next time you ask, « What is in toothpaste? » you’ll know it contains a blend of components designed to improve our oral health.
Kids’ toothpastes on the other hand are specifically formulated for developing baby teeth. Kids’ toothpaste usually has gentler ingredients, appealing flavors, and a lower fluoride concentration. These qualities make brushing more enjoyable and effective for young children.

Preventing pacifier teeth should be on the priority list of parents who are looking out for their children’s oral health. Fortunately, the steps and strategies to prevent this habit from developing are simple.
Kids will ideally break this habit independently that doesn’t happen, thumb and pacifier sucking should be stopped by the age of 3. But First you should address their insecurities and comfort them so they don’t resort to sucking their thumb instead. If they start doing that to fall asleep, you might want to consider covering the thumb with a band aid or a sock.
You Also, can use positive reinforcement (rewarding a positive behavior) whenever your kid spends a day thumbsucking-free.
A quick Hello from our ortho assistant Robin👋
Aside from good oral care at home and visiting the dentist twice a year for preventative dentistry, including an oral examination and dental cleaning, it is essential to know some of the hidden causes of childhood cavities. Awareness is half the battle.
1. Chewable vitamins.
2. Tooth grinding.
3. Inadequate water intake.
4. Repeated consumption of sugars and starches.
5. Malocclusion (misaligned teeth).
Today we celebrate the spirit of liberty and justice for all!
Happy Memorial Day 🇺🇸
Pediatricians and pediatric dentists will recommend a frenectomy for babies born with tethered oral tissue, commonly referred to as a tongue-tie. If the frenulum is too tight, their tongue range of motion is limited. So, a frenectomy enables a broader range of motion.
So, how do you know if your child needs a frenectomy or if they are tongue-tied? Keep an eye out for the following signs of trouble.
⚪️ Your baby is having a hard time maintaining a latch during breastfeeding.
⚪️ Your child predominantly breathes through their mouth rather than their nose.
⚪️ There is a gap between your baby’s two front teeth.
⚪️ Your baby is having a hard time swallowing breast milk or formula.
⚪️ Your baby’s gums are receding prematurely.
⚪️ Your toddler seems to have a speech impediment.
If your baby’s frenulum is creating latch issues or you notice some of the other signs and symptoms listed above, it is time to request an appointment with a pediatric dentist or pediatrician.
Speech development begins early, with infants starting to produce sounds shortly after birth. As children grow, they progress through different stages of language, from babbling and cooing to forming words and sentences. This process involves the coordination of various oral structures, including the lips, tongue, jaw, and vocal cords, to produce speech sounds accurately. Oral health plays a crucial role in speech development, as the condition of a child’s oral cavity can affect their ability to articulate sounds properly. Dental issues such as tooth decay, malocclusion (misalignment of teeth), missing teeth, or oral infections can interfere with speech production and clarity.
Early intervention is crucial for addressing both speech and oral health concerns in children. Speech therapy can help children improve their articulation skills, language abilities, and oral motor coordination, which can lead to better communication outcomes. Preventive dental care and regular dental check-ups are essential for maintaining optimal oral health and addressing any dental problems promptly.
Cavities are the most common dental issue. Sometimes your child might get multiple cavities, and you want to prevent this from happening again in the future.
Here are some common reasons why your child keeps getting cavities.
* Not Brushing or Flossing Correctly.
* Eating or Drinking Too Much Sugar.
* Misaligned Teeth.
* Not Visiting the Dentist Often Enough.
Besides an effective dental hygiene routine, a healthy diet, and regular dental visits, you may also want to ask about getting dental sealants as extra protection against cavities.
Enjoy watching the eclipse this afternoon but please be mindful to wear safety rated solar eclipse glasses when looking at the sun!
A once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, traveling through many states across the country. In order to safely view the rare phenomenon, you will need solar eclipse glasses.
But before buying a pair, it’s important to verify their authenticity as fake eclipse glasses are on the rise.
How to Identify Fake Solar Eclipse Glasses!
In order to determine if your eclipse glasses are safe to wear, put them on indoors before April 8 and look around. “You shouldn’t be able to see anything through them, except perhaps very bright lights, which should appear very faint through the glasses,” the AAS states. “If you can see anything else, such as household furnishings or pictures on the wall, your glasses aren’t dark enough for solar viewing.”
If the glasses pass this test, take them outside on a sunny day and look around. You shouldn’t see anything through the glasses, except maybe the sun’s reflection off a shiny surface. If they pass this test, too, look at the sun through the glasses for less than a second. According to the AAS, you should see a sharp-edged, round disk that’s comfortably bright.
Today our staff from Millis, Hopkinton, Grafton and Westboro all met for a general meeting with different discussion groups.
Feeding your child a balanced diet is critical to ensure that they grow up healthy and robust. However, you must also consider the fact that what you give your youngsters has the ability to either encourage or damage their dental health. Certain foods are suitable for children’s teeth, while others might contribute to tooth decay.
Did you know your sparkling smile holds the key to more than just pearly whites? That’s right, friends! Oral health and overall health are deeply intertwined, impacting each other in surprising ways.
Think of your mouth as the gateway to your body. Every bite you take, every word you speak, passes through this bustling ecosystem of millions of bacteria. While most are harmless, poor oral hygiene allows harmful ones to multiply, potentially triggering a cascade of problems. It’s important to stop that from happening.
Stay on Top of Dental visits
Did you know that you should bring your child in for their first dental appointment when they get their first tooth or by their first birthday? After that, your child should be seen by a dentist twice a year, as is the case with adults.
These routine visits will help keep tooth decay at bay and set your child up for smile success.
When not addressed, the slightest bit of decay can cause discomfort and spread to other parts of the tooth. If your child has complained about toothaches or pain, they may need a tooth filling to treat a cavity.
Here at Dental Place Westboro, our team can perform the treatment for a tooth-colored filling that will leave your child with a cavity-free natural-looking smile!
