Fifteen years ago, the Olawale Law Firm emerged from adversity and was fueled by rejection.

During the Great Recession, the world was in turmoil. People were losing jobs en masse, firms were shutting down, and finding new employment seemed impossible.

I wasn’t prepared, or so I believed. With only $500 to my name, a non-working spouse pursuing her Master’s degree, a two-year-old son, two car payments, and a mortgage for a six-bedroom house, I felt overwhelmed—mentally, emotionally, and financially unready.
Yet, circumstances beyond my control pushed me to start with the little I had. I had no choice because others had made it for me. I had no power to reverse the decision that left me jobless.
I was unprepared for what came next, but God had a plan. He provided me with a place to start, strengthened my mind, and instilled in me a supreme confidence devoid of doubt or fear of failure.

Every step I took was divinely guided. The universe seemed to align in my favor.

From the very next day, God began opening doors, bringing clients and cases my way. I never faltered in my responsibilities to my family. Each new challenge became a stepping stone to greater heights.

The firm that began in a single room in my house has grown to own its own property. Our team has united thousands of families and helped them achieve the American Dream. We have recovered over $15 million for our bereaved or injured clients. We have walked with people through the darkest moments of their lives, guiding them to victory and closure.

We consistently deliver excellent legal representation with passion, respect, integrity, and compassion.

As we mark this fifteen-year milestone, I reflect on our journey with immense gratitude—to God, my dedicated team, and our incredible clients who trust us with their lives. I am thankful for the referrals from friends, colleagues, and social media connections.

We are here to serve you. Call us 888 9 WIN WIN (888 994 6949).

It is an honor to co-coach the Capital Law School immigration law moot court team for the Immigration Law Moot Court Competition hosted by New York University.

The team spent most of the year crafting and fine-tuning their briefs and oral arguments. It was refreshing to watch their transformation from timid presentations to confident advocacy.

It got me to reflect on my journey and how procious these moments with these students are. I recalled leaving New York in 2002 to attend law school in Ohio. I left New York as a security guard and home health aide, protecting and caring for people who couldn’t protect or care for themselves earning minimum wage.

I am returning on this visit twenty-two years later as a lawyer, mentor, and coach, teaching future lawyers about litigation and oral advocacy.

Wherever you are today is a journey towards a better and brighter future.

I’m excited to share that I am one of five law firm owners featured in the 2024 Super Lawyers®️ magazine cover story highlighting the journeys and challenges of starting and growing a law practice from scratch.

I have also been selected as a 2024 Super Lawyer honoree for Ohio & Kentucky.
This Super Lawyer magazine reserves the honor for about 2.5% of attorneys in a state.

This feature is the manifestation and realization of a dream I have had since my first year as an attorney. I remember the first time I held a copy of the magazine. I told myself that one day, my story would be featured. The call and invitation to be finally came almost two decades later.

No dream is invalid as long as you're willing to work towards achieving it. When you put your dream out there, the universe will conspire to actualize it.

Off to Atlanta for the Crisp’s Game Changers summit.
The largest gathering of top-performing law firm owners in the United States.

Last year, I left the summit with a key to a Mercedes Benz g-Wagen, a boxy beauty of mechanical brilliance. I’m still in awe of its powerful presence.

This year, one lucky person will drive away in Michael Mogill’s Aston Marten, and another will get to fly to space on Virgin Galactic.

I ran into my old boss yesterday.

I haven't seen him since 2009. It was so wonderful to see him after all these years. I was on my way out of the restaurant, and he was on his way in. After exchanging pleasantries, I left.

As I was driving back to my office, I started ruminating about the importance of this man to my story. I realized I had never gotten the opportunity to express my gratitude to him personally. So I drove back and returned to the restaurant.

I found him sitting with his wife, enjoying a drink. Their faces lit up with surprise as I sat next to him and told him what I came back to do.

I took the time to tell him how grateful I was that he gave me the opportunity to work at his firm as a law clerk and retained me as a lawyer after several law firms had rejected me for almost a year.

“No, I didn't do anything,” he protested. “You were a good worker, he said.
“I learned a lot from you and your son. You gave me a golden opportunity and launched my career,” I replied.

Remember, no one truly forges their path alone. The universe conspires to introduce remarkable individuals into our lives, guiding us toward our destined purpose.
Mr. Edwin Malek and his son, James Malek, were the guardian angels sent to lead me to my true calling as a lawyer and entrepreneur. My gratitude knows no bounds.

When was the last time you took a moment to appreciate those whom fate has delivered into your life's journey? It's never too late; reach out to them today.

On my most recent business trip to New York, it felt like a homecoming. New York holds a special place in my heart as my first American hometown. In 1997, I arrived with just $0, a single shirt, and a pair of pants, and this city welcomed me with open arms.

The first photograph captures a moment from 1998. I had just finished my shift as a security guard at Duane Reade store. I paused at the Charging Bull, capturing my presence in the vibrant metropolis, much like the tourists who flock to its streets. I couldn't predict the future, but I was resolute in my determination to seize the countless opportunities that New York had to offer.

Fast forward to last week when I retraced my steps, this time as a successful attorney, after representing a client at the Federal Plaza. Dressed in a commanding suit, a street peddler dubbed me 'Mr. GQ.' I smiled, appreciating her hustle, and told her she reminded me of my younger self two decades ago.

I once wore the hats of a security guard and caregiver, protecting and caring for those in need. Now, I return to this city as an attorney, safeguarding the rights of my clients and helping them access the privileges of legal American residents.

I am profoundly grateful for this journey, embracing both its highs and lows. Each experience has sculpted me into a better person, even the challenging ones.

I am thankful for the opportunities that New York presented to a young immigrant like myself. I am thankful for the unique possibilities that the United States has offered, transforming me from a security guard into a seasoned attorney with my own practice, aiding fellow immigrants in achieving the American Dream within just twenty-six years.

This story could only unfold in a country like this, where a man who arrived penniless, the son of a janitor and a plumber, and the grandson of farmers, could craft such a remarkable narrative.
