TWENTY-THREE years licensed in real estate doesn’t seem quite possible but here we are. The math doesn’t seem possible because I’m not that old 😂

I was 18 years old, getting my license to help my Dad with his business. Little did I know the trajectory of my life and that I’d be a broker and owner of my own real estate company. That’s the funny thing about life, you don’t get a view of the future, you just have to press on with well-laid plans and be ready to shift into gears requiring you to fly by the seat of your pants.

But I want to share this with you, especially new agents: I don’t know it all. How crazy one would have to be to assume they know everything in an industry that’s ever-changing. But that’s the exciting part, the changing of the industry. Growth requires change. Don’t get it wrong, I have wealth of knowledge under my belt, but I’m smart enough to know I don’t know it all. Have an open mind and an eagerness to learn new and better ways, it’s what will make you sustainable in a hard environment to succeed in.

So while it “ain’t my first rodeo”, it most certainly isn’t my last either.

Resistant to change WAS me, to a T. I liked routine and structure and knowing what to anticipate. Then you become an adult and realize that is not even remotely how life works.

As I have the opportunity to observe those around me, I often see so much resistance to change. People fight tooth and nail to avoid self-reflection; considering alternatives to their deeply rooted positions in life seems to be one of the biggest hurdles I see.

Challenging someone to see something different, beyond their current view, is extremely hard. But who are we if we aren’t willing to even consider there might be a different way to get to where we want to go? Life IS the challenge. And let me assure you, no one is going through perfectly.

The only way to get where you want to go is to make the first step; ready or not.

Do I beat to the rhythm of my own drum? Hell yes, I do. And I do it unapologetically.

I believe you can still uphold principles in business that are necessary, when it may appear those foraging a different path would throw those to the wayside. You can be different AND still do things with:

➕ethics
➕integrity
➕decorum

The biggest mistake I see rookie agents make: compromising their integrity. Desperation to fill their own pockets rather than do the job correctly and professionally is a sure-fire way to get yourself in a place you don’t want to be in.

To my friends and colleagues in this industry, rise above. Don’t do the bare minimum.
