Atria Westminster
Atria Westminster will be a new senior living community offering independent living, assisted living and memory care services in Adams & Jefferson Counties
Not only is Javier Alvarez a valuable team member and an amazing receptionist at Atria Forest Hills, but he also shares his hobby and skill with residents during his weekly leatherwork program.
Javier uses top-quality recycled leather from leather bags, jackets, and other clothing items to create new items in his beginner-friendly workshop. Javier teaches and assists each resident in creating their own handcrafted accessories such as leather wallets, cell phone holders and art supply cases.
We are so fortunate that Javier chooses to bring his unique passion to his community.
We embraced the spirit of nature with our Great Outdoors Social Series! 🌲🦅🗻

"Atria Chandler Villas is a special place; I felt it when I walked through the door on my first day. The staff and residents have the biggest hearts," shares Shiron, the Executive Director. "We are truly a tight-knit community that cares and looks out for one another. The energy here is so positive it makes coming to work a joy!
Through dedication and hard work, the team at Atria Chandler Villas has earned a coveted Quality – or “Q” – Award. This recognition is given to high-performing communities that achieve Quality Enhancement scores of at least 90%.
Shiron adds, "We are so proud to bring home a Q Award for the third year in a row. This team is committed to excellence, and it shows! Our mindset is to live QE every day, not just once or twice a year. This victory doesn't belong to one single person; it takes a village, and each person plays their part."
Atria’s Quality Enhancement program is unique in the senior living industry. It includes a twice-yearly, unannounced review of more than 400 indicators that gauge performance in all areas of our operation, including first impressions, administration, housekeeping, resident services and culinary.
"Our residents benefit from our quality standard and all the other programs Atria promotes," Shiron explains. "It also allows the leadership team to focus their efforts on developing culture and customer service within our four walls."
Congratulations to the Chandler Villas team and the 31 other communities who have achieved this awesome accomplishment so far in 2024! 🏆
It's National Best Friends Day!
When Betty met Mo at Atria Park of Glen Ellyn, they instantly clicked! Since then, these best friends can be found at community programs and laughing together.
"What a blessing the friendship is that developed between Mo and Betty. To find a new best friend at 86 is something we all hope to have at that age!" shares Lisa, Mo's daughter-in-law.
"Mo tells me she loves Atria on a daily basis," Lisa adds.
Lizzie is 101 years of perfection! Dancing, singing and hanging out with friends - you name it, she's doing it at Atria Marland Place. She loves music, exercise and art class. Not having to clean is a plus.
"Her vibrant and fun-loving nature returned," says Lizzie's son Richard about her move to the community.
Lizzie says the secret to a long life is taking it day by day and getting up every morning and smiling. We're so thankful that she shares her smiles with her community.
Happy birthday, Lizzie! 🎉
"This is Army Specialist Ray, it’s 5:15 am, time to wake up easy” – these are the words that once echoed through the barracks, stirring fellow troops to rise and shine, courtesy of Ray, a resident at Atria Bethlehem.
Ray served in Army security and intelligence, broadcasting vital messages for 2 years in Japan. It was there that he met his wife, Keiko.
Post-military, Ray taught high school briefly before finding his true passion at Bell Labs, where he ensured the smooth operation of audiovisual equipment.
Today, he enjoys spending time with Keiko, playing Bach on the piano for his fellow residents, sharing travel tales and reading.
It's not every day you meet someone as famous as Bing Crosby, but for Christine, that was just one memorable moment during her tenure as a flight attendant.
At age 22, Pam earned her wings and flew with the iconic Pan Am Airlines for seven years. "Meeting all the people was my favorite part. It worked out great because my husband was in the military and we both got to travel a lot together."
Christine's advice for others is to believe in yourself. "Go for whatever it is in life you want to do!"
The Atria Victoria Park book club loves to crack open a good book. Residents Myrna, Edee and Mary Ellen meet bi-weekly with Susan-Lynn, the community's Engage Life Coordinator, to discuss their current reads.
"I love fiction," shares Myrna, who adds that her favorite part of book club is getting to know her fellow residents better through their discussions.
"I love trying to figure out 'who did it'" says Edee, whose favorite genre is mystery. She names Terry Fallis and Jodi Picoult as two of her favorite authors. "It's so fun hearing other people's insights on the books we read."
Mary Ellen, who generally reads more non-fiction, is breaking out of the norm and reading the fiction book Trial by Fire by Terri Blackstock.
Susan-Lynn, who enjoys a good love story, is happy to read anything alongside the residents. "The book club is an example of my favorite things about Victoria Park – the people. I get to connect with all the wonderful residents."
"Sulpi is such a positive person. She is genuine, always has a smile on her face, is a team player and a mentor. More than anything, she loves and respects our residents. She is truly a gift to Atria Walnut Creek" says the community's Executive Director, Kelli.
In recognition of her dedication and exceptional service, Sulpicia, or Sulpi to those who know her well, has been honored as a 2024 Northern California Excellence in Service Award winner from the California Assisted Living Association (CALA).
"There are so many reasons why Sulpi is the perfect candidate for this prestigious award. She has been a trusted and loyal employee of Atria for more than 30 years. The residents and the staff love her and she goes above and beyond every time a new employee has been hired," Kelli continued. "Atria is in the business of caring for people and so is Sulpi. She brings smiles to their faces with her bright light."
Join us in congratulating Sulpi on this well-deserved recognition! 🥳
"When I first moved to Atria Del Sol, I told my daughters I wanted to go home," Nancy shared. "But it's amazing how quickly that changed. My kids call me at six o'clock and ask, 'Are you in your apartment finally?' We stay really busy, and everything is at our fingertips. I have so many friends."
This transformation reflects the power of a community like Atria Del Sol, where residents find comfort, companionship, and a vibrant place to call home. 🏡
Celebrating 63 years of marriage, Diane and Thomas share their secrets to lasting love. "Communication! Put yourself in each other's shoes. And support each other, celebrate each other's successes and encourage each other in down times."
Their life together started off with a surprise snowstorm in Texas on the day of their wedding. "Half of the invitees could not make it to the wedding; however, those who attended had a blast," remembers Thomas.
Now they live together at Atria North Point, where they enjoy the freedom that comes with not having to deal with house chores. They added, "we are really happy. We have very good friends here, and our family is nearby so we can see them often!"
On Memorial Day, communities gathered to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed to protect our freedoms. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten. We stand united in gratitude, honoring those who served our country with unwavering dedication.

Ruth, a resident of Atria Chandler Villas, knows what it's like to soar to new heights, literally!
Ruth spent four thrilling years as a hot air balloonist. From learning how to fly to co-owning "The Green Apple," her zeal for adventure is truly uplifting.
"I loved the genuinely amazing feeling of flying so high, taking off and landing, and the views. It was also a wonderful way to meet friends," recalls Ruth. Some of her favorite memories include flying in the Topeka Great Plains Huff n' Puff Rally, traveling to events in other states, and getting to see pilots and balloons from all over the world.
Ruth reminds us all to seize every opportunity to try something new. 🌄🎈
"Ingrid goes above and beyond for the residents daily," says Cristina, Assistant Executive Director at Atria El Camino Gardens. "Her dedication advances our community's mission. As Life Guidance Director, she educates staff on dementia care, fostering a loving and positive community culture."
In recognition of her dedication and exceptional service, Ingrid has been honored as a 2024 Northern California Excellence in Service Award winner from the California Assisted Living Association (CALA).
"Ingrid’s wow factor is her loving heart. She is highly respected in our community by her peers, employees and most importantly, her residents and their families," Cristina continued. "She is a strong advocate for the residents and creates programs that help older adults with dementia thrive."
Congratulations to Ingrid on this well-deserved recognition! 🎉
Sisters stick together at Atria Anchor Pointe!
Helen, Joyce and Jean spent their childhoods living together on their familly's farm in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Now, all these years later, they find themselves living together again, this time at the same senior living community.
"I lived here first and encouraged the others to move in," shared Helen, who moved in five years ago. Joyce, the middle sister, joined her a year later, and Jean, the youngest, followed two years after that. Living together again has not only brought the sisters closer, but also means their large families get to see each other more often.
Their favorite part about living in their community is the programming. They participate in every event and can be seen eating their meals together as well. And as sisters do, they look after each other. The ladies have even organized a weekly Saturday night Rummoli game. We hear it is serious business, so you better bring plenty of pennies if you want to join in.
From understanding symptoms to navigating care, we're exploring common questions about living life with dementia. We spoke with Regional Vice President Jason Shott about navigating this challenging journey and empowering families in our blog: http://ms.spr.ly/6184YXMoy
The 'Wonder Women' of Atria Oakridge are a group of residents who came together to support their neighbors and give back to their city. They knew they wanted their gatherings to include volunteering, learning and thoughtful conversations. Working with their Engage Life Director, they began to meet weekly to pursue their philanthropy while finding ways to enjoy art, music and history at the same time.
Their first official meeting had them exploring their creative sides by making quilts, shawls, baby blankets and stuffed animals as gifts for their local hospital.
The Wonder Women aren't just extraordinary; they're superheroes!
After school, you can often find Raya at one of two places:
1. Ice skating practice
2. Spending time with her mom at Atria Longmeadow Place
Her mom, Caryn, is an Engage Life Program Instructor at the community and shares that Raya really enjoys visiting to help decorate for programs and to hang out with residents. "She loves coming to Atria and feels that she has an extended family here."
They're a family that’s excited to watch Raya shine! "I often bring in videos of her skating routines from competitions," shared Caryn. Recently, the community gathered to cheer Raya on by watching a live stream of her participating in a synchronized skating competition.
We love seeing how people build connections and friendships across generations in our communities!
"Embracing the wisdom and grace that come with age has opened my heart to a new perspective, inspiring me to celebrate life in all its stages," shares Atria Park of Vintage Hills resident and poet, Catherine. "Discovering the beauty in aging has been a profound inspiration for my poetry."
As stylish as she is clever, Catherine's writing is infused with humor and honesty that transcends age and speaks to the truth of being human. "Instead of viewing getting older as a burden, I've found joy in every moment and experience," she says.
Aging gracefully can mean many things to many people, but Catherine shares that she focuses on prioritizing staying active, nurturing relationships, cultivating interests, adapting to change, seeking purpose, and practicing self-compassion. "You can age gracefully and live a fulfilling life at any stage," she added.
George and Oksana, residents of Atria Hertlin Place, met at a Ukrainian dance in Newark, New Jersey 57 years ago. George was a Greek Orthodox priest and Oksana was a dancer at Radio City Music Hall. After seven months of dating, they knew they were meant to be and got engaged.
Oksana had a swirl of both nerves and excitement on their big day. George says he was never surer of anything. They drove past Radio City Music Hall and all of Oksana’s fellow dancers came out to cheer her on!
George says the key to a happy marriage is to “agree with whatever your wife says! And make sure you want the same things in life.” Oksana says it’s to “be honest and share everything, the good, the bad and the ugly."
We love all the amazing couples who call Atria home!

We're shining a spotlight on Amy Plunkett, one of our exceptional Regional Care Directors, who has flourished with Atria for nearly two decades.
Starting as a Community Business Director at Atria Lincoln Place, Amy's journey showcases determination and dedication. Utilizing Atria's tuition reimbursement program, she attended nursing school while serving as an Assistant Executive Director at a community in Florida. "Every supervisor I had was supportive of my goals," Amy reflected. "Without Atria’s tuition reimbursement, I would not have been able to take that leap of faith and try a new career path."
Her desire to grow led her to become a Registered Nurse and eventually take on her current role, overseeing care delivery across Atria's southeast region. "I love the residents. They make me smile and laugh daily and they show kindness in everything they do," she shared. "I enjoy supporting staff members and encouraging them to do their best each day. I have coworkers who share the same passion and commitment to the residents as I do. The staff at Atria are top notch."
Amy's drive didn't stop there — she completed a Master's degree in Nursing in just 10 months! "I honestly just love to learn. Education is super important to me. Atria’s tuition reimbursement changed my life," she added.
We're so proud of you, Amy!
Meet Albina, a remarkable resident at Atria Southpoint Walk. Originally from the Philippines, she dedicated 44 years to her career as a pediatrician after moving to New York at 21 as an exchange student. She cites her mother as an inspiration for her success, saying "my mother went through a lot, sacrificed a lot, while working and raising nine children."
Albina shares this wisdom with the next generation of women: “Do not depend on anyone else. Be independent. I have been married for 50 years but still would advise that it is wonderful to be an independent person."
A special thank you to Albina for dedicating her career to helping children and for being a tremendous example to all the young women in today's world.
