This week we joined the Westmont Citizens Police Academy Alumni for their annual picnic. Every year members of the WCPAA volunteer their time to help out at events like Cop on Top, Squad Car Night, National Night Out and more. We would like to thank the WCPAA for their continued support and dedication to our community.

JUNE 20TH is Squad Car Night! Public safety, social services and community organizations from all over northern Illinois will participate in this interactive, relationship-building outreach event during Cruisin' Nights. June 7th is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence and more than 200 are shot and wounded, with an average of more than 17,000 gun homicides every year.

Gun violence prevention is more important than ever. The Westmont Police Department offers free gun locks for handguns to Westmont residents. Pick up a free gun lock at 500 N. Cass Ave (Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm).

It’s officially week! Plan your DUNKIN' run for Fri. May 17th from 5am-12pm. Come out to any Westmont Dunkin and make a walk-up or drive-thru contribution to support the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. WPD, volunteers, and special guests will be on-site collecting donations. Cash and credit accepted! We also have coffee cups, t-shirts, hats and raffle tickets for sale. Thank you for supporting this event!

Chief Gunther hosted a luncheon yesterday, honoring the retirees from Westmont PD for their service and sacrifice over the years to make our community safe.

With your help, we safely disposed of 409lbs of unwanted/expired medications this week! Another successful DEA Drug Take Back Event. Special thanks to the staff from Mariano's and the pharmacy students from Midwestern University for volunteering.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our shred event this past weekend! With your generous donations we raised $4,989 for Special Olympics Illinois. 8,718 pounds of paper were shredded and 74 trees saved.
