2. Rededicate Yourself to Good Hydration

When we are inside a lot in the seemingly unending days of a dark, cold winter, many don’t have hydration in the forefront of their minds. The water bottles that we are used to having on our tables or in our cars when we are running around in warm weather often fade to the recesses of kitchen cabinets. But our bodies pay the price.
Rededicating ourselves to staying well hydrated in the springtime can do real wonders with how your body feels day-to-day. Dig out your favorite reusable, environmentally-friendly water bottle – or find a new one that is convenient for you and fits your lifestyle/habits.

1. Get Seasonal Nourishment Through Fresh Herbs and Vegetables

The flavors of the season are marvelous this time of year. From various aromatic herbs to many colorful fruits and vegetables, you can bring lovely, delicious, fresh items back into your diet that winter may have put a damper on.
Refocus on herbs and produce that can help support the health of your joints, skin, kidneys, and liver. Teas with fresh herbs such as dandelion, meadowsweet, nettle, and cleaver are nourishing and cleansing. Nettle is a particularly good herb for your joints after a long, cold winter when you haven’t been able to enjoy moving around in the outdoors as much. Its anti-inflammatory properties have also been associated with helping to relieve the symptoms of hay fever.
From carrots and collard greens to strawberries and spinach, there are many right-from-the-garden choices that bring vibrancy and sustenance to the table during this time of year. Carrots contain Vitamin A, fiber, and antioxidants that bring multiple health benefits. One cup of sliced strawberries brings with them nearly 150% of the daily recommended minimum amount of Vitamin C! Strawberries are also another antioxidant-rich delicious food and are great for heart health too.
Check out your local farmer’s market or local weekend pop-up farmer’s markets to get the freshest choices. Consider growing your own too! Strawberries and herbs can thrive in pots if you don’t have the land for a garden. All these dietary choices are an excellent way to revitalize after long winters.
