Think of your body as a high performance sports car. You work hard and fast, perform through the twists and turns of life. Just as it is important to win races 🥇 and crush goals, your body, mind, and soul needs daily and weekly TUNE-UPS. Stretching, physical activity, vacations, and mindfulness - are all important to prevent engine failure aka burnout.
A great video explaining why “a drink of alcohol a day” unfortunately has no health benefits….
You are the most important person in your life. The more you work on yourself, the more personal flaws you overcome, the more weaknesses you strengthen, the more areas of your life you improve… the better your life will become. We need to take care of ourselves like we would a loved one, our dream car, our child. So much depends on you. And you deserve to treat yourself (and inner child) amazingly well, in balance.
One what person can do, any person can do. Success is typically a combination of effort with God-given abilities over time. Combine that with strategy, and some luck. The biggest thing you can control is EFFORT. Your effort. Nobody can force you to take steps forward. You have to. When you encounter obstacles, find strategies to overcome them or work around them. If an obstacle you encounter is insurmountable, pivot. Reshape your goals or direction and keep moving forward.
We are often our own worst enemies. We engage in negative self talk. We bully ourselves with put downs, self critical comments, or statements. Over time this can erode our self esteem, confidence, and feelings of self-worth.
If this pattern exists within you, recognizing it is the first step. Then, learning to be your own best friend. Your own cheer leader. To treat yourself with kindness and respect. To uplift yourself. With this pattern of positive self talk, the sky is the limit.
Do you love yourself like you love your pet(s), partner, best friend, or family member? Why wouldn’t you? People often struggle with loving themselves from past relationship trauma, bullying, or unmet needs in childhood. This can lead to negative core beliefs like “I am unlovable” or “I am not good enough.” If this is you, it’s never too late to start building a better relationship with the most important person in your life - YOU.
Change has to come from You.
Mindset. Is. Everything.
Life threw me a major curveball this week ⚾️🔥
Recently I have been working hard at leveling up my tennis game and personal fitness. I had been playing consistently several times a week along with a steady exercise routine.
Monday night I was playing cardio tennis Chelsea Piers Connecticut. I had warmed up, stretched for 20minutes, and my body felt great. I did everything correctly… Then suddenly while moving to the net to take an approach shot… out of nowhere, I felt a pain in my lower right calf. Then I couldn’t take another step forward. My right Achilles ruptured.
I went from playing the best tennis of my life to being unable to walk. The day before I had just ordered a new racket. The week before I had signed up for some competitive training programs… but in an instant, my goals and plans were turned upside down.
The key to overcoming such personal tragedies is mindset.
I was devastated. I cried in the exam room when the orthopedist told me I wouldn’t be able to exercise for months, and probably wouldn’t be able to play tennis for a year. As someone who exercises 7 days a week, this is a huge adjustment.
After a couple days of grieving the loss of my plans, of my abilities, my mobility, and dreams, I began to tap into gratitude. Despite this huge challenge I have a lot to be grateful for. Silver linings are everywhere if you look for them. I was able to book surgery with a top surgeon within a week. I have the support of my wife, family, and friends.
And - I have helped countless clients through similar medical injuries and know the steps to get through this.
This is an opportunity for personal growth. A challenge I didn’t ask for, but one I will overcome 💪🏼

PSA on Valentiene’s Day!
If you’re in a relationship and thinking about whether or not you should celebrate or skip Valentine’s ❤️ day, I have a few questions for you.
1) When was the last time you wrote your partner a card with heartfelt thoughts and feelings about them? 💌
2) When was the last time you bought them beautiful flowers or a thoughtful gift? 🎁
3) Do you regularly make them feel very special?
If you answered “regularly” and “within the last month” kudos, you are a relationship pro. And you should probably still celebrate Valentine’s Day in some way. Relstionship bonus points never hurt anyone!
If your answer to any of the any of the above is “I can’t remember” or “a long time ago” then V-day is the perfect opportunity to step up and wow your special someone 😍
Hope everyone has a great Valentine’s Day!
- Dr. Fathi

Do you track your workouts?
Here’s how I did in 2023 with workouts that I actually tracked with my Apple Watch ⌚️
- 376 walks🚶
- 318 stretching workouts (usually on the peloton app)
- 146 HIT workouts (including boxing and strength training at a local gym)
- 80 yoga sessions 🧘♂️
- 67 peloton rides
- 47 strength training workouts 💪🏼
And a few more that I didn’t track. I aim for a good balance of intense exercise and recovery… All while working on average 50h a week, and 5 weeks of vacation (yes, I workout on vacation, too!)
My fitness goals for 2024 are to switch things up a bit and play more tennis and do more strength training.

Contempt erodes the quality of a relationship…
According to research conducted by Dr. John Gottman, contempt is the #1 predictor of divorce within the first 6 years of marriage. 🔬 Criticism can escalate to contempt and may indicate that a person feels superior to their partner. 🧠 https://ter.li/7w264j

Happy New Year and welcome to 2024!
What’s next?
The first week of the new year, I recommend for my clients (and friends) to set different categories of goals (personal, finance, relationship, health, fitness, relationship, etc.) It is important to set goals that are specific, measureable, and realistically attainable.
Throughout the year, check in every month to evaluate your progress and make changes, if necessary.
I have my goals set! What do you hope to achieve in 2024? In what ways do you want to level up your life?
Wishing everyone a healthy, fulfilling, and prosperous year!
