Toast to Alison McBain! by Mitzy Sky (1minute read)
On May 28th, 2023, Top of the Zinc Roof: Poems Observed from Behind the Veil with a Glimpse of the Light was published on Amazon. It took an incredible amount of work and support. I have one woman to thank for that: Alison McBain. With her eye for detail and a writer and editor of numerous genres, I am fortunate to call her friend and to have her edit the book for me. Alison is an incredible human being. Her patience, kindness, and passion calm you when you may think yourself too chaotic in the moment.

🎙️ In our debuts episode (just released!), we feature Gabi Coatsworth Gabi Coatsworth Author
, author of A Beginner's Guide to Starting Over:

It’s time for widow Molly Stevenson to stand on her own two feet. With blind dates, a needy ghost, and her small-town bookstore in trouble, she’s going to need all her inner strength to prevent another unhappy ending.

Fifty-something Molly can’t bear to remove her wedding band. Still grieving the death of her beloved husband, the last thing she needs is her sleazy landlord raising the rent to drive her bookshop out of business. And she doesn’t need a new man, either, no matter what her friends say.

Now this mild-mannered indie bookstore owner must find the inner strength to turn the page to a brand-new chapter.

So, she’s relieved when the ghost of her husband arrives claiming he’s there to help. But is he? Seems he has some issues of his own.

With a little nudge from beyond the grave, the mild-mannered bibliophile hatches a plan to revitalize her boutique and keep the doors open. But with everyone, including her spectral spouse, insisting she start dating again, Molly isn’t sure what’s worse—the dates she meets online or the love of her life trying to find her a new man—who’s not quite as good as him, but will do.

Can Molly find the courage to fight for herself?

In addition to chatting with me about my memoir, Love's Journey Home, Liz Ambrico and Lisa Bernard at Wordy Tips & Tidings also asked me about my novel, A Beginner's Guide to Starting Over, including if there were any similarities between my memoir and my novel. There is definitely a connection though I decided to write Molly's circumstances in A Beginner's Guide different from my own. You can read more about that in my interview. In my lovely interview with Liz Ambrico and Lisa Bernard at Wordy Tips & Tidings magazine, I was asked how I tackled writing dialogue for my memoir, Love's Journey Home. I start with remembering how a conversation made me feel, and then I try to recreate that in the dialogue I write. If you're a writer, how do you write dialogue and what do you do to make it effective?

Many thanks to Wordy Tips & Tidings! Don't forget to check out the full interview and their website: https://www.wordytips.com/post/meet-gabi-coatsworth
