Wine in America: Cultivating New Vines and Palates with Rachel Black
The history of wine in North America tells the story of our relationship with Europe, European identities, and an evolving American taste for wine. This talk will also look at wine’s current place in our lives.
Rachel E. Black is an associate professor of anthropology and chair of the Anthropology Department at Connecticut College. Her research focuses on issues of food and wine in Italian and French culture. Black is currently writing an ethnographic novel about the impacts of climate change and the power of cooperative agriculture and love to save a way of life in a wine-producing village in Northern Italy.

What a Night: Another Spectacular Saturday at The Keeney Ballroom!
Last Saturday, the Keeney Ballroom was transformed into a hub of laughter, music, and unforgettable entertainment as over 150 enthusiastic attendees gathered for the sensational "Music Theater Comedy 2024" event. Hosted by Andrew T Galinsky, founder of the MTC show, it was a night to remember! The event featured a diverse lineup, including The Big Stabby Trio and performers from Sea Tea Improv, offering a perfect blend of music and comedy.

Last night, we celebrated love in all its messy, hilarious glory with ‘Crappy Valentine’s Day,’ a non-traditional one-act play festival that offered a raw, subversive take on modern love. Bob Tyler’s original music added an extra layer of magic to the evening!

No wonder that Ida’s daughter’s Jane came home alarmed about the stock market – it had just crashed! Little did Ida and Jane know the country was about to enter a Great Depression that would last for over a decade. By 1934, over 20% of Americans would find themselves unemployed.
Wethersfield Historical Society and Live History bring this difficult time in American history to life in “The Interview”, coming to the Hurlbut-Dunham House (212 Main Street) on Saturday June 3. In this 60-90-minute interactive theatrical performance, you will step back in time and meet costumed actors playing real people from Wethersfield’s past for an interview unlike any other. Do you have what it takes to pass this interview?
“The Interview” brings together Escape Room style puzzles, drama, and humor to bring to life the stories of those who lived in, worked in, and frequented the Hurlbut-Dunham House. Tickets are $30 for General Public and $25 for Wethersfield Historical Society members. Tickets may be purchased online or in person at the Old Academy.

Wethersfield Historical Society and Live History invite you to “A Timeless Gathering” at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center (200 Main Street) on Sunday June 4. During this interactive 60-75-minute theatrical performance, you must unravel a series of clues to figure out the identity of the unexpected guest before it is too late.
Tickets are $50 General Public and $45 for Wethersfield Historical Society members. Tickets may be purchased online or in person at the Old Academy.
