It's been 20 years since I made the open hood hinges. They have adorned many a quality build, one of many details on award wining models, and graced the pages of popular magazines. Well, it seems that it is about time to expand the product line and bring more incredible details to the craft. I have complied a list of details I would like to include in a tree. For starters, how about dome Lights?

Today is a very sad day as we bid farewell to a beloved model company.

Picked up a couple things from the dupage toy show.

Been asked recently what I used for under hood insulation.
This looks to be a piece of stiffening material from the fabric store.
it gives a good look mimicking the fiberglass insulation that was used.
Its a bit thin but might show with the thicker molded details on some kits.
On top we have a dried out sanitize wipe. Here it is doubled over and sprayed flat black.
On the left we have a much thicker material. This is "frisket" or "Stencil material used with painting or air brushing.
Its much thicker, about .030 inch or 3/4" scale. It does give you an edge or thickness to work with
It is wax impregnated, but that did not seem to impair paint adhesion.
A low heat solder iron, rubbed along the edge gives it a bit of bevel.
Also simply using a ball point pen to form indentions and give some good depth for the holding pins or the molded shape some of the hood liners had.
Being white allows you to color it as you like.
During the 50's this would have been yellow with a black back that mounted against the hood.
In the late 50's until now it would have been black throughout.

Maybe I need to add this (and hood latches) to the J3 Models Hood hinge set.
