On Monday, the HBF presented the 2024 Youth Hockey Hall of Fame award to the Grendahl family from Wadena, MN. Bob Grendahl and his son, Robby, have been highly devoted to youth hockey development.

Bob was an original founder of the Wadena Hockey Association, active coach at every level, referee, hockey board member, honorary life member of Wadena Hockey Association, and assistant coach of the first Wadena High School varsity hockey team. Robby is now the head coach of Wadena - Deer Creek HS team.

Bob sadly passed before receiving this award but we were honored to share the induction news with him before. He will be truly be missed.

We thank them for their passion, dedication and commitment. Congratulations and keep growing the great game of hockey!

“These funds will be used to purchase goalie equipment for players that are interested in trying the position of goalie. The association will start “Goalie for a Day” program to get more players into the goalie role as there are not many at the mite level. Funds will also be used for other player’s equipment to fill the void for those who cannot purchase due to affordability.”

It is with profound sadness that the 1980 Miracle Hockey Team announces the passing of our teammate and brother, Mark Wells.

Many of us were fortunate to spend time with Wellsy last week at our annual Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp. He loved coming back to this event every year as the “Commish”, reuniting with us and all the campers who have become family.

While there aren’t many details at this time, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Herb’s son and former University of Denver player ( #6), Dan Brooks, represented the Brooks family — and wore replica plaid pants as Herb did in his 1974 Championship win! Congratulations DU!!!!

Tourney time! Did you know Herb Brooks ( #5) won the 1955 State Championship (when there was only one class) with the St. Paul Johnson Governors!? Check out some of these never seen photos!

became the stand-out star of the final
game. He scored two of the three
goals for the Governors for a 3-1 victory. “It represented your neighborhood. I would have to say that it was my biggest thrill ever. It was just the guys in the neighborhood and that was special.”

Yesterday, the U of M honored Coach Brooks and his 1974 National Championship team to celebrate 50 years since Minnesota’s first national title!
