Who is Slayed.by Suzy?

Hi, my name is Suzy Balderas and i am the owner of Slayed by Suzy Studio. I have been in the beauty industry for 10 years but it was not until about 4 years ago i decided to pursue a career in hair and makeup. The road has easy and i have quit many times but always found myself coming back and 4 years ago i decided to go full throttle and give it my 100%. Now here i am owning my own salon, working with amazing artists and living the life i always dreamed of.

I began my journey in 2010 when i attended a stage makeup class at cypress college. I met a wonderfully talented friend that from the beginning saw something special in me. She encouraged me to dabble into makeup for photography and thus we became a team. I started with editorial and Avante Garde style slowly making my way to clean beauty makeup. I began to explore my options as a a makeup artist and did a few gigs such as fashion shows, photo shoots and special events. I quickly began to love the idea of being a makeup artist but the reality was that i simply could not afford to be one. I had a very limited kit and at the time i had a very low paying job. I gave up the idea of being a makeup artist and continued with my college classes to pursue a music degree.

I dropped out of college soon after because i did not want to be a music major and i felt lost. I started to work a lot and started to get comfortable but after a year on one of my days off i had a moment of realization that i did not want to work in a kitchen forever. I still had dreams of being a makeup artist professionally. I decided to try cosmetology because it would allow me to be licensed and learn about hair which would make me a better skilled makeup artist.

Toni and Guy Hairdressing Academy (2015) became my home for year. I felt right at home in this school because not only did they focus on hair but makeup, photo shoot, runway Avante Garde events. I was able to push my creativity and i felt inspired again. I knew i made the right choice attending this school. I fell in love with hair coloring and began to plan a new future.
