The World Health Organization, the prevalence of anxiety and depression globally increased by a massive 25% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic alone. Human touch is crucial to our well-being. From childhood development to emotional and overall wellness, human touch ignites the release of oxytocin, a bonding or love hormone that gives a sense of belonging, enhanced sociability, stability, and trust. Stress rules the body through several hormones that are responsible for our moods.
Hormones such as dopamine are our inner givers of happiness. They cannot release happiness unless they are triggered.
Massage increases blood circulation which enables an increase in dopamine levels. And it’s normal to have an emotional release with massage. Everyone carries unprocessed emotions from experiences to some degree. However, emotions that aren’t dealt with don’t just go away.
They can affect:
* the way you think about yourself
* how you react to stress
* your physical well-being
* your relationships with others
After all, emotional baggage gets its name from somewhere, right?
Though some may refer to trauma being “stored” or “trapped” in the body, that isn’t necessarily a scientific way to put it.
However, the symptoms of traumatic stress can manifest physically.
This may be because the brain associates this area with a particular memory — often on a subconscious level.

It's normal to feel sore after a massage. The technique carries blood and nutrients to your muscles while eliminating toxins. After stimulating muscles that you may not usually use, you might experience delayed onset muscle soreness. This is a physical response to the inflammation as your body heals. The day after a deep tissue massage, your muscles might feel sore because of the above techniques. It is comparable to a strenuous workout, after which your muscles will be sore. Another factor that can cause soreness after this therapy is dehydration. If your muscles are not hydrated enough to be pliable, they will be sore the next day. Note: If you are more sore than when you went in, speak with your therapist.
Inflammation Response
Massage is like exercise. A massage forces blood into the muscle, bringing nutrients and removing toxins and can temporarily increase inflammation (the healing response) to areas that the body feels need attention. This inflammation can possibly bring discomfort. Inflammation and discomfort can usually last a few hours to about a day and a half.
Dehydration
Your body is made up of 55% to 65% of water. Some organs contain more water. So, it is vital for you to drink enough water everyday for your muscles and to flush out toxins. If you are dehydrated before a massage, you will definitely be depleted, and you could feel more pain from breaking up lactic acid or trigger point therapy being dehydrated.
Lactic Acid
Massage breaks up lactic acid in the body which needs to be flushed out of your system. Lactic acid is produced in muscle tissues during exercise and massage. Drinking water helps to move lactic acid out of your muscles. Lactic acid buildup can trigger cramps, pain and sore muscles.
Stress
Stress can be a major culprit for aches and pains. Stress can cause lack of sleep, which also can increase pain and body aches. Stress can reduce healthy deep breathing which can reduce oxygen from getting into your organs and muscles. This can cause pain. Look at your lifestyle and see where you can reduce your stress.

Curious on why your massage therapist always reminds you to drink lots of water after a massage and in general to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water.
Massage leaves your body dehydrated which can cause;
🔹 muscles tender to touch
🔹 muscle fatigue
🔹 short term loss of muscle strength
🔹 reduces range of motion due to pain and stiffness
remember your body is like a vehicle the water is like the oil and you know your car can’t properly function without its oil changes. Also during a massage you really sold toxins and likectic acid which can make you dizzy nauseous headache a little off feeling. May not be the same day as the massage it could be the next day so to avoid all that drink your water.
Start off your week right! There’s always time for self care 🤗😁 Call and book an appointment for chiropractic , massage, and Acupuncture 👍🏼
