As parents, we know the importance of believing in our children. We are the first to encourage and support them as they take on new challenges and pursue their dreams. Believing in our children is more than just words of encouragement - it’s an essential part of their growth and development. When we show them that we believe in them, we give them the confidence to take risks, explore new ideas, and reach for the stars.
Our belief in our children is also a powerful reminder that they are capable of achieving great things. It’s a reminder that with hard work, dedication, and resilience, anything is possible. By believing in our children, we are sending them a strong message: we trust them to make good decisions, and we have faith in their ability to succeed. So let’s commit to believing in our children and helping them reach their full potential.
In our modern world, where parents are often busy and preoccupied with work and other obligations, it’s easy to forget the value of spending quality time with our children. Spending time with children is essential for both their development and our own well-being. It helps us build strong, positive relationships with our children, instilling a sense of trust, security, and love. It also encourages them to open up and communicate their thoughts and feelings, which can make them more confident and better equipped to handle difficult or stressful situations.
In addition, spending quality time with our children also allows us to teach important life lessons and good values. We can also use this time to introduce them to new activities, such as sports, music, or art, which can help develop their skills and interests.
Social and emotional skills are the foundation for a child’s success in life, both now and in the future. It helps children learn to regulate their emotions, make better decisions, interact appropriately with peers, and build relationships. It also plays an important role in a child’s academic success. Studies have shown that children with strong social and emotional skills have better academic performance, fewer behavioral problems, and greater overall happiness.
Here are the five competencies for social and emotional development.
This Valentine's Day, take a moment to express your love and appreciation for the special people in your life. Show your friends and family how much you care by sending cards, flowers, or even just a simple text message. No matter how you choose to celebrate, make sure to share the joy of this special day.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Social-emotional development plays an integral role in children's healthy growth and development. This type of development focuses on a child's understanding of social norms, developing relationships with peers and adults, and developing a sense of self-esteem and self-efficacy.
Recent studies have linked social-emotional development to academic success, mental health, and long-term well-being, making it the cornerstone of positive childhood development. We must recognize the importance of helping children build sound emotional skills from a young age, as this will help them become successful individuals in their future endeavors.
Therefore, it is crucial that we prioritize and plan activities to nurture and promote social-emotional development in children. We should focus on team building, problem-solving, communication skills, and emotional regulation. Furthermore, we should provide regular opportunities for children to participate in these activities and ensure that they are given the necessary support to develop their social and emotional skills.

This grounded theory study explored women’s experiences of postpartum anger and rage - the why and how to reduce anger: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/10497323221120173
Why are moms angry?
Violated expectations, unmet needs (for sleep, emotional support, practical help, time for self), and feeling on edge (being stressed, fatigued, resentful, anxious, sad) contributed to intense anger.
Women were angry shouldering most of the child care burden when partners did not fully engage in parenting. One participant shared:
“I get to shower twice a week. My husband has a shower daily. I do not get to have a shower peacefully. He’s supposed to have the kids so I can shower and it’s not two minutes before both my children are sitting on the bathroom floor and he’s out sitting on the couch on his phone.”
Women expressed anger at themselves for violating their own expectations of themselves:
“It felt like I wasn’t able to enjoy any of my time as a new mother. I put a lot of pressure on myself to think I could continue to travel and work and do all these things as a new mother…It definitely affected my confidence.”
Women also struggled to get their needs met:
"There would be times where I would be in tears. Just wanting my needs met, and they’re not being met, like night after night. I’m not getting any sleep."
Partners taking an active role in infant care, family, friend, clinician support and community programs for parents and babies helped to prevent and reduce anger. Helping women with their sleep can help to reduce postpartum anger.
"I'm fine."
Right?
Sound familiar?
Sometimes it's just easier to say that than to try to explain everything. Especially when you aren't sure how the listener will respond.
I'm fine. It's just easier.
But it may not help you feel better.
Find your safe person and let them know how you feel.

Feeling frustrated by your child's behaviour?
Take a moment and think.
Sometimes it's not about them but about YOU.

The Decline of Play and Rise in Children's Mental Disorders There's a reason kids are more anxious and depressed than ever.

Moms face many factors that contribute to sleep struggles. Sleep disturbances often begin during pregnancy, due to increased urination, heartburn, or physical discomfort.
Once the baby comes, moms are often taking on more night wakes and feeds, and dealing with stress, or even anxiety and depression, all of which come with higher risk for insomnia.
This week on the podcast, we are joined by Dr. Shelby Harris, , clinical psychologist and author of The Women’s Guide to Overcoming Insomnia, to discuss what causes sleep problems and why maternal sleep should be protected.
See an excerpt from the podcast blog post below ⤵️
Before my first son was born, I spent a lot of time preparing for his sleep. Picking out a bedside co-sleeper for when he was little, choosing a crib for later, shopping for sleep sacks and pacifiers and sheets.
What I didn’t spend any time doing was forming a plan for my own sleep. I imagined that I would sleep when the baby slept and that even though I would be tired, it would be manageable.
Of course, it was harder than I had ever imagined. I stirred at every movement, every noise my son made. I intervened to nurse probably more often than I needed to. And I tried to take on every nighttime responsibility—not because my husband wasn’t willing to support, but because I felt like I had to be the one to do everything.
If I could do it all over again, I would do things differently. I would probably move the co-sleeper a little farther away. I would try to worry less. But most importantly, I would make a plan from the beginning to protect my own sleep.

“Years of scientific study have shown us that, when children’s stress response systems remain activated at high levels for long periods, it can have a significant wear-and-tear effect on their developing brains and other biological systems. This can have lifelong effects on learning, behavior, and both physical and mental health.” - Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child “
