Ketamine’s ability to modulate pain perception is primarily attributed to its impact on the NMDA receptors. By blocking these receptors, ketamine disrupts the transmission of pain signals and reduces the hyperexcitability of the neurons involved in pain processing. This modulation of pain pathways provides significant pain relief for individuals suffering from complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).

As an innovative and effective approach, ketamine therapy offers hope to those who have not found success with traditional treatments such as antidepressant medications and therapy alone. By blocking the NMDA receptors in the brain, ketamine enhances the availability of neurotransmitters like glutamate, leading to increased neural plasticity and the formation of new connections in the brain.

Interested in ketamine-assisted therapy? Our Operations Manager talks about some of the key things to look for when searching for the right partner on your journey.
Truth time! Ketamine is NOT a psychedelic. Full stop.
Both ketamine and certain psychedelic substances are gaining widespread attention and acclaim right now for their potential in treating multiple mood, mental health, and chronic pain conditions. For anyone who is interested in learning more about ketamine assisted therapy OR psychedelic assisted therapy, it is important to understand where these two paths cross and where they diverge.
Ketamine is classified as a dissociative anesthetic. Psychedelics like M**A, psilocybin, mescaline, and L*D are classified as hallucinogens.
While both ketamine and psychedelics are capable of creating deeply powerful experiences, their interaction with the brain is different. That is why these experiences, while profound and challenging, will be different. In this way, ketamine assisted therapy and psychedelic assisted therapy share a common goal - but not a common path.
While both of these therapeutic methods show massive promise, it is important to note that they are NOT the same and each method has its own unique risks and benefits. It is critical that anyone interested in pursuing either ketamine assisted therapy or psychedelic assisted therapy understands the full measure of these innovative treatments.

If you are suffering from chronic or persistent pain, you owe it to yourself to explore all of your options. At Kairos, we specialize in IV ketamine therapy used in conjunction with pain reprocessing therapy as a means to address this kind of pain. However, as healthcare professionals, we know that ketamine will not work for everyone.
In order to help people find true wellness, we must recognize that our own methods will not always be a patient's first, best, or only option. With that in mind, we are sharing a recent episode of the Huberman Lab podcast. If pain is keeping you from finding the wellness you are searching for, this is more than worth your time.

People with OCD experience persistent and unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that can cause anxiety and distress. These obsessions may involve themes such as contamination, symmetry, or harm. Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that individuals perform to reduce their anxiety caused by obsessions. These could include excessive hand washing, checking, or counting.
Supporting someone with OCD requires patience, understanding, and ongoing effort. By educating yourself about OCD, practicing empathy, employing effective communication strategies, and providing practical assistance while respecting boundaries, you can be a vital source of support and care in their journey toward recovery.

Full study accessible through link. An excerpt:
“During specific periods of brain development, the nervous system exhibits heightened sensitivity to...relevant stimuli, as well as increased malleability for synaptic, circuit and behavioral modifications. These mechanistically constrained windows of time are called critical periods and neuroscientists have long sought methods to reopen them for therapeutic benefit. The duration of acute subjective effects and the durability of the therapeutic response vary considerably across psychedelics, but the results provide a mechanistic explanation for the importance of the post-treatment integration period for clinical implementation of psychedelics..."
Psychedelic assisted therapeutic treatment methods are allowing us to literally retrain our brains. But the key word here is ASSISTED - post-treatment integration is a MASSIVE factor when considering assisted therapies like ketamine infusions. These substances are not meant to replace the need for continued professional treatment and therapy; they are meant to act as an adjunct to it. It is critical that long-term healthcare methods such as mental health counseling, pain reprocessing therapy, and somatic therapy are included in your journey. Explore all of your options and choose the path that works for YOU.

In a recent study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, it was found ketamine, in addition to rapidly treating depression symptoms, can improve cognitive functioning in depressed individuals!
The study results indicated that ketamine infusions improved the participants’ working memory, processing speed, episodic memory, and overall neurocognitive test performance. Notably, the enhancement in overall neurocognitive performance and specific functions persisted FIVE WEEKS post-treatment.
