Happy National Rum Day!
There are many different types of rum: white, gold, dark, and spiced. Today, we chose to focus on Dustin's tasting notes for something a little funky—Funky Rum! Although most funky rum is from Jamaica, like Dustin's pick, Hampden Estate, some funky rum, like Clairin Le Roche, comes from Haiti.
Whatever type of rum you are after, you can always ask Dustin or any of our sales associates for recommendations. Today would be a great day for you to stop by the store and pick up a new rum selection!
It's Wine Tuesday! Stop by RJ Liquor and pick up a bottle of your favorite end-of-day treat for 20% off!
Congrats to the USA!
We never had any doubt the USA would be the overall winner of the Olympics. Tonight, we celebrate by highlighting a small sampling of the American-made selections we carry in the store.
Today, we wrap up our series of posts about R&J's selection of international spirits from Olympic medal-winning countries. NOTE: These are all our Spirit Ambassador's favorites. We have more than one liquor selection from several of these countries!
First, we have Monopolowa Vodka from Austria. Originally distilled in Poland, this is a potato vodka.
We have Cricova Brut from the Republic of Moldova. This sparkling wine is remarkable for its shiny light straw color.
Taylor Fladgate Golden Age is a Port wine from Portugal. This is a special collector's edition Port available in limited quantities. If that made you thirsty, hurry into the store and get it!
One of the world's most popular brands of sherry, Lustau from Spain boasts over 40 varieties of their wine. Several selections from their collections are available at R&J.
For Argentina, Malbec is the most important red grape variety. Hey Malbec is from a boutique winery, and has notes of black fruits, violet, and black pepper. We have a feeling the gold medal-winning BMX biker toasted with Hey Malbec after winning at the Olympics!

As we near the end of the games in Paris, R&J would like to highlight some of the medal-winning countries' alcohol that we offer in-store.
From equestrian medal winners Israel, we present M & H Apex Whisky, the very first whisky ever to be aged in the Dead Sea!
Everyone knows THIS GUY from Turkey. Holy Cow. But do you know Tsiakkas wine? We don't know if this silver medalist ever chills with a glass of wine -- but if he does, he probably sips Tsiakkas.
Hampden Rum has been distilling this spirit in Jamaica for 265 years. Because its distillery is extremely hot and humid, Hampden Rum can age in a relatively short period of time—8 years compared to 25 years in other cellars.
Bols Genever Gin from the Netherlands is unique because genever is a blend of Walt wine and the traditional botanical spirits one would find in gin. This makes Bols Genever a less neutral gin than most.
Poland's Belvedere rye vodka is special to vodka drinkers because the flavor of rye is not distilled out of the finished spirit.
Rowing into our list is Penderyn Whiskey from Wales. This is a single malt whiskey matured in ex-bourbon casks.
Winners!
We're celebrating non-American spirits by medal-winning country again today.
From Greece, we have Ouzo, an anise-flavored aperitif that packs a punch alcohol-wise.
Avua Cachaca Amburana is "rum-like," made from fresh cane juice instead of sugar cane. It gets its unique flavor from being aged 24 months in Brazilian amburana hardwood vats.
Crown Royal is a well-known "winner" here in the States, but it's from Canada!
Ming River Sichuan Baijiu isn't easy to categorize, but in China, it is considered a "grain spirit." It is traditionally sipped at room temperature.
Casillero del Diablo from Chile is no stranger to American wine drinkers. This full-bodied Cab has hints of chocolate, coffee, and black cherry.
Finally, we have Kubler Absinthe from Switzerland, a liqueur produced by one family in 1863. Not unlike Ouzo, it has the flavor of anise, but with additional notes of herbs, mint, and spices.
You may never have heard of some of the more exciting items R&J has from medal-winning countries!
For instance, from shooting medal winners Guatamala, we have Ron Zacapa Rum. From swimming silver medal-winning Hungary, we present Royal Takaji wine.
R&J is no stranger to whisky, but have you ever heard of Paul John Indian Single Malt from shooting medal winners India?
Don't be shocked -- we have McConnell's Irish Whiskey from swimming gold medal-winning Ireland, and La Venenosa Puntas Mezcal from Mexico, who took home the bronze medal in archery.
Spain's bronze medal-winning slalom canoe sternsman may have shared a celebratory bottle of Lolea Sangria with his teammates! And we hope Sweden's bronze medal-winning cyclist shared the Ahus Akvavit with the team because it's a pretty strong bottle to drink alone!

One of Dustin’s favorite rye whiskeys just went on sale! Down from $99.99 all the way to $49.99 😳
Rugby Sevens! The US Ladies took home the bronze, and let's pause to celebrate this win.
New Zealand's women's team and France's men's took home the gold. Fiji men took home the silver medal. Here at R&J, we have some of non-sporting highlights from these medal-winning countries.
We have Clement Rum from France, which is described as "silky smooth with notes of caramel, spice, and dried fruit." We suggest using it in a nice, summery Mai Tai.
Broken Shed Vodka from New Zealand is distinct because it is considered a "milk vodka," made from distilled whey, making it creamy, smooth, and a little sweet -- not what you expect from vodka!
From Fiji, we have Plantation Rum, which is sweet with tones of vanilla, raisins, and banana. We recommend using it in a pina colada.
BIG savings!
If you’re tired of the usual vodka soda and seltzer around the pool, try this instead. Sparkling Sangria!!
Aluminum bottles! (no glass allowed at the pool) and only 1.3 grams of sugar per bottle made with red wine and fruit juice.
Originally $4.99, now $1.99
Or buy a 24 pack case for $24.99 and save even more!
Just as many obscure sports are represented in the Paris games, R & J carries many interesting spirits from all around the world. We want to introduce just a few international items from countries that have already medaled this week!
Amarula is a cream liqueur from South Africa and has the "swimmingly" delightful flavor of fruity caramel.
Jagermeister is from Germany. Like the starting shot of a race, this liqueur is known to get one going!
Khor Platinum Vodka from Ukraine is made from corn and is among the top-selling vodkas in the world.
Hayman's Gin is from London and handmade from a family recipe that is over 150 years old.
Duchesse De Bourgogne from Belgium may-or-may-not have been the beer these athletes toasted with after taking gold and silver in their road race.
R & J carries plenty of Italian wine and spirits, but we wanted to highlight three winners: Fernet-Branca bitters, Grappa di Sassicaia, and Amaro Averna liqueur.
Tazai sake from Japan skated into our list today. We recommend sipping this one much slower than you ride your skateboard!
Congrats to all the medalists and to everyone who read to the end of this post!
Australia may not have the gold medal-winning 4x100 relay team, but they do have the delicious Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur!
Congrats to the U.S. Team for this morning's win!
The first time Scotland's whiskies were taxed doesn't seem like something to celebrate. Yet, today we raise our glasses for National Scotch Day! (According to the Scotch Whisky Association, July 27, 1494 was the first time Scotch whisky was taxed)
Slàinte!
New tequila brand? Yes please!
Lost Lore is from the same distillery as some other high-quality brands such as Jaguar and Siembra Azul.
Additive-free, champagne yeast, and classical music help make this agave magic!
This summer, as we all watch elite athletes compete on the world stage, R & J will share our store picks from each country participating in the games.
Since France is hosting, we'll share our French store pick first: Ricard Pastis De Marseille!
