Winnie says "alot has changed in my sleeping, I'm more rested. I'm breathing through my nose a lot better."
Her mom says she hasn't heard snoring in months!
She no longer sounds clogged and nasally.
She used to have persistent post nasal drip that she was constantly sniffing and wiping and haven't seen or heard that in months now either!
It's fun to also see changes to her facial profile and dental arches as we guide development through proper muscle function.
Keep up the good work!
Ready to breathe easy? 🌿 Myofunctional therapy can help you transition from mouth breathing to nasal breathing, boosting your health and well-being.
Straighter teeth are just icing on the cake! She has stopped sucking her thumb and sleeps with her mouth closed now!
Crooked teeth are a consequence of underdeveloped jaw bones.
When humans don’t eat enough fat soluble vitamins, our jaw bones develop inadequately.
The consequence is a lack of space for teeth to erupt. The signs occur in children with crooked teeth and needing orthodontic braces.
In fact the alarming rise in need for orthodontic work in our children is a sign of malnutrition.
The consequences of crooked teeth relate to a small airway.
Today collapsing airways at night, or snoring is so common that breathing machines are prescribed to over a billion people on the planet (!)
Scientific research now links sleep apnea to heart attacks and brains diseases like Alzheimer’s. In children the collapsing airway presents with similar symptoms to ADHD.
These conditions can be prevented if the airway dysfunction, most commonly identified as mouthbreathing, is corrected in childhood.
Myofunctional therapies to strengthen the tongue and train nasal breathing can create mild corrections of teeth during developmental ages.
For many kids today, they often need extended periods of these therapies to correct severely underdeveloped jaws.
Have you noticed this trend in kids today?

Have you heard of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy? It's a non invasive treatment option you may want to check out!
This therapy specifically targets the muscles of the head and neck which can aid in the development of the face, teeth and jaws for children and can improve symptoms of jaw pain and obstructive sleep apnea in adults.
Guided stretches and exercises help eliminate bad habits and retrain muscle patterns to both prevent and correct problems. This can save a lot of time, money, and pain in the long run.
The most common symptoms that many people don't realize can be related to an underdeveloped airway and muscle dysfunction:
*Snoring
*Mouth breathing
*Teeth grinding
*Thumb sucking
*Bed wetting
*Crooked/crowded teeth
Treatment is painless and self-sustaining, so why not give it a shot? I have over a decade of experience in successfully improving sleep and facial development through myofunctional therapy.

This photograph demonstrates my patient’s Mallampati score improving through therapy with me.🥳
What’s a Mallampati score, you ask?
The Mallampati score is a classification system used by medical professionals not only to predict the ease of intubation but also to assess the potential for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a type of sleep-disordered breathing.
The score is determined by examining the visibility of structures in the back of the throat, including the uvula, soft palate, and tonsils.
Here’s a breakdown of how the Mallampati score is determined and its correlation to sleep-disordered breathing:
Class I: The soft palate, uvula, and tonsillar pillars are completely visible.
Class II: The soft palate and part of the uvula are visible.
Class III: Only the base of the uvula is visible, with most of the soft palate obscured.
Class IV: The soft palate is not visible at all.
Correlation with Sleep-Disordered Breathing:
Higher Scores (Class III and IV): Indicate a smaller airway, which is more prone to collapse during sleep. This is associated with a higher risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). People with higher Mallampati scores are more likely to experience significant sleep-disordered breathing.
Lower Scores (Class I and II): Indicate a larger airway, which is less likely to collapse. This corresponds to a lower risk of OSA and other sleep-disordered breathing issues.

This little guy makes me so proud!! He started treatment when he was 4 to try to get a handle on mouth breathing. We aren't done yet, but his progress photos were sure fun to look at!
Starting young can be scary because we are asking a lot developmentally for compliance. And this guy had a very sensitive gag reflex, so we weren't sure how far we would get with any tools in his mouth.
But he is sailing through therapy like a champ now, and his last dental visit went great with no gagging!!
His eyes look healthier, he has a broader jaw, and there's not such a strain to get the lips closed.
He has created some more space between his baby teeth, and his overbite is even improving.
Starting young can make big differences for setting up healthy habits for life before bad habits get harder to change.
There's always a balance between starting treatment as soon as we see a problem and being able to follow through with exercises.
I'd say this case was worth the gamble to be able to have such a big effect on development in just a few months!
