Matt finishing 10 of 11 marathons here at Pawnee prairie park!!
Can you believe we are already in the 9th week, ready to run marathon #10? This has been a wild ride and an amazing honor to support LLS. I’m looking forward to this one because it’s in Wichita with several folks joining me for portions of the run and a few who I will influence into run the whole 26.2 (haha, Bryan Pate and Ashley Nichole Jacobs). Come join us, we are starting from the south entrance of Pawnee Prairie Park and headed toward the Prairie Sunset Trail. And for a donation, pancakes and sauasage will be available after your run served by Tony Brown and Mylinda Junkermeier (thanks y’all). Also for donation, gluten free muffins prepared by Brittney Neal (they look famtastic). If I don’t see you tomorrow, have a great Saturday. Enjoy your long run or some other hard activity. Go get it!!
FIRST PLACE MALE FINISHER!!! Marathon #8 of 11 in 11 weeks for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is done. This race was at Heartland 50k (a 31 mile ultra marathon) plus over 2000 feet of incline. It was a hot one, 82% humidity at the start and 80+ degrees over the final 2 hours. My last run in these temps was in September, so my body wasn’t acclimated. I was sucking down the fluids and luckily carried extra salt as I used it all. I led the race for over 15 miles but began experiencing wicked cramp. I stopped a few times to stretch and was able to keep going. Around mile 26/27 I experienced the absolute worst running cramps I’ve ever had. My calf was completely locked up with my foot flexed like a ballerina. I had to lay down on the road to stretch it out before I could run again. My pace began to slow by 90 seconds per mile. Eventually the girl behind me (Sarah from Derby) caught up due to the stretching stop. I congratulated as I knew no one would catch her and I was determined to find a way to take 2nd. I had to dig deep over those final three but was able to run with very little walking to the finish, securing 2nd place overall. This race was a lot of fun with amazing scenery in the flint hills. I’ll post more pictures later this week.
Good luck to everyone running Prairie Fire tomorrow. iCRYO will be on site with free compression therapy after the race so stop by and say hello.
Have an awesome weekend y’all! Go get it!!!

Marathon #8 of 11 in 11 weeks for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is today at the Heartland 50k. Running 31 miles of gravel roads outside of Cassoday, KS. It’s gonna be a warm one…temps will be in the 80s for the last few hours.
To prepare this week i’ve completed 4 cryotherapy sessions, 3 hours of compression therapy, an hour in the sauna, 5 hours of yoga and a pregame iV. Feeling ready to roll.

Finished! Marathon #7 in 11 weeks in support of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society went much better than #6. Last week was my worst performance so far, but today was the best. I felt strong the entire race, hydration/nutrition were on point and the weather was amazing. The residents of OKC show so much support for this event making today a lot of fun. Saw several Wichita folks along the course today. I think mile-for-mile, this was my best overall race since the car wreck 5.5 years ago. Very thankful to say that. Congrats to all the other runners today!
And of course, Whataburger for the post run meal!

Marathon 7 of 11 in 11 weeks in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society starts tomorrow at 6:30am. Rode down with Tony Brown this afternoon—was nice to have some company after traveling the last few solo. Last week’s race did not go as intended so I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow’s start. I’ve ran this event two others times so I am confident in my gameplan. I had a fun dinner with a great group of Wichita folks and I’m ready for an early bed time. I hope y’all had an awesome Saturday. Go get it!
