It's !
Did you know that in Kansas, 7 in 10 fourth graders read below a proficient level on National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) standardized tests?
Why is this important? Students who are competent readers are more likely to excel in other subjects, like math and science. Reading achievement is also a strong predictor of graduating from high school and attending college.
At KHI, we know that reading supports cognitive development, boosts health literacy, and benefits mental health โ making it vital for Kansas children to become successful readers. In June, we partnered with the Phillips Fundamental Learning Center, Thrive Restaurant Group, and the Kansas Health Foundation to create a data walk for a reading summit. The event aimed to raise awareness and drive action to improve childhood literacy in Kansas.
