Our club welcomed three adult leaders of Troop and Pack 533 of Andover, Ks to speak to our club today. Bill Matthews, Scott Light and Sean Borst presented and informed us of the many activities the scouts have going on in 2024. Since we are the new chartered organization for 533, it was great to see our two groups establish a relationship that we can continue to build for many years to come.

A BIG thanks to Doug Chambers for speaking to our club today about his passion, which is building and maintaining the mountain bike trail located at Wilson Reservoir east of Russell, Ks.

His dream started in the mid 1990’s when he lived and owned a bike shop in Great Bend. From there, his son and others joined him in building the bike trail. Today, there are 25 miles of bike trails to explore.

Also, thank you for informing us about Wilson reservoir, which is a true Kansas attraction that brings adventurers from many other states to experience!

Doug poses with his wife Pam (president elect) with a book that will be donated to the Andover public library in his honor.

Please join us tomorrow at Butler Community College. Our guest speakers Karin Kaufman and Sarah Jane Crespo will be speaking to the club about One Small Step Wichita.

One Small Step brings strangers with different political views together to record a 50-minute facilitated conversation—not to debate politics, but to learn more about who we are as people. Created by StoryCorps, One Small Step is an effort to remind the country of the humanity in all of us—even those with whom we disagree.

One Small Step is currently focused in Wichita, KS and a few other communities across the country, where the organization works closely with community partners and civic leaders to showcase the potential of the initiative.

Join us for lunch on Thursday, June 6, to learn about this important initiative.

Rotary learning course recommended for incoming club secretaries!

Learning Center courses have great value, whether you've been a member for one year or for many decades! On a recent survey, one member stated "I have been a club secretary for over 20 years and I found that there was a fair amount of new material that I needed to learn and old material that I needed to refresh my knowledge of specifics."

Brush up on the basics, and discover what's new today at rotary.org/learn !

Martin Bauer, a lifeline Kansan whose hometown is Clay Center, Ks presented a very unique historical program to our club on 4/4/24. His father fought in WWII as a tank commander after landing on Normandy beach. Martin tells his father’s story by showing many photos his father took during his tour of duty. And adding commentary in the first person. Thank you Martin for sharing your father’s story in a way that helped us better understand the horrors of way and the difficulties of our soldiers as they marched towards Berlin after D-Day.
