Who is planning to be in a sunflower or cut-corn field tomorrow morning? Sounds strange unless you're an avid dove hunter- like me.
Opening Day of Dove Season is Sunday. The forecast looks pretty nice across Kansas with temperatures in the 50s and low 60s during the morning and 80s to near 90 during the afternoon. Light wind speeds will accompany the sunny skies. Nice weather continues for Labor Day.
Great weekend for a round of golf, maybe hang out by the pool or fire up the grill. Dry weather with afternoon highs in the 80s and morning lows in the 50s and low 60s.

Nice start to the labor day weekend across Kansas with clear skies and temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Under sunny skies across Kansas temperatures are expected to reach the 80s each afternoon, with the coolest day during the long weekend to be Labor Day.
Warm and dry Labor Day weekend Nice weather for the holiday weekend.

Still watching a weather system move in by Thursday and Friday with more rain chances and cooler weather to start the Labor Day Holiday weekend.
Weather Alert: Extreme Heat. It's still going to be hot across Kansas this afternoon with triple digit heat for most areas. It will be humid and sticky with heat indices between 105-110. Still hot tomorrow with highs in the 90s to near 102.

What a morning...surprise storms blow up around 5:30-6am, "heatburst" reported at ICT at 7am (81 to 92F in 30min), storms continue to redevelop over same area centered around downtown and southeast Wichita, Air-show delayed then cancelled at 9:45am. Rainfall estimates of 1-2" across central and eastern Sedgwick county.... meanwhile- Cheney Lake- not even a drop of rain. Wichita Eisenhower Airport- only has a "trace" in the rain gauge.
Check out the time-lapse of the weather radar over Wichita since 5:30AM. Amounts are radar estimated. At 10:45am KWCH Studio (N-Wichia) has 1.35" and it is currently storming at the station with a rainfall rate of 1.25/hr "Raining cats and dogs"

9am Update:
Rain and storms continue across south-central Kansas and Sedgwick County. Rainfall amounts 1 to 2" have already occurred and more will continue for the next couple of hours. Overall intensity should weaken by 10am. Storms are slow moving- drifting North and East at 5-10mph.
- Flooding and stalled vehicle downtown
- Tree limps and 50mph wind gusts reported downtown
More showers and storms continue to develop to the west and south of current heavy rain across Wichita.
Flood Warning is in effect until 12:15pm.
Urban areas prone to flooding and small stream flooding is possible. Localized flooding is occurring across downtown Wichita.

Rain and storms continues across south-central Kansas and Sedgwick County this morning. Rainfall amounts 0.50 to 1.50" have already occurred and more will continue for the next couple of hours. Overall intensity should weaken by 10am.
Flood Warning is in effect until 12:15pm.
Urban areas prone to flooding and small stream flooding is possible. Localized flooding is already occurring or will happen shortly across Wichita.
Scattered storms will begin to diminish by 10-11am across south-central Kansas, however more storms are possible later today across parts of central and western Kansas. An isolated strong storm or two may produce wind gusts to 60 mph later today.
After the A.M. storms expect humid conditions and temperatures heating up into the upper 90s to near 106 this afternoon. Factor in the humidity and it will feel like 105 to 110 through the afternoon hours. Dangerous heat can lead to heat related illnesses.

Between 6:25am and 7:00am a thunderstorm moved over ICT and produced a heatburst. The temperature jumped from 81 to 92 in about a 30 min. time span.
Not uncommon to see this in the summer when the temperatures in the mid-levels of the atmosphere are so warm (85-90F) and storms develop across the region during the overnight and early morning hours.
Isolated storms have developed across south-central Kansas across Sumner and Sedgwick Counties. Brief heavy downpours and frequent lightning strikes can be expected as these storms slowly drift to the north at 5-10 mph. No severe weather is expected this morning.
Triple digit heat this weekend, however a slow downward trend in the temperatures as the big heat dome diminishes and a stronger cold front arrives towards the end of next week. High temperatures will be below average for late August and Labor Day weekend.
Weather Alert: Extreme Heat- Dangerous heat indices today and Sunday between 105-110 each afternoon. Take the necessary precautions if you plan to be outdoors for prolonged periods of time this weekend. Check out the hourly heat index forecast too.

Is this Summer's last blast of heat? Fall is only 28 days away. A hot weekend with high temperatures near or above 100 and heat indices each afternoon between 105-110 degrees. A slow cooling trend this week, until a cold front moves through Thursday.
It almost looks like a September weather pattern as we transition from hot and humid weather, to more typical August weather, in the week ahead. Highs in the 80s and low 90s.
Hot weather (mid 90s) return next weekend, however a storm system across the West Coast promises a cool down and possibly more moisture as we head towards Labor Day weekend.

Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the Marginal Risk severe thunderstorm outlook to Slight Risk today.
A cluster of strong to severe storms across Nebraska this morning has potential to continue moving SE into NC-Kansas through the afternoon. This cluster of storms will then have potential to produce wind gusts 60-70 mph along with quarter to golf-ball size hail as it moves through Kansas through the afternoon.
Dewpoint temperatures are high (>70F) and atmospheric wind shear from the surface to 5000ft is strong. If... current activity moves into this moisture rich/high shear environment strong to severe storms are possible (especially in the yellow outlined, slight risk area).
We will continue to monitor this potential and provide forecast updates if watches and warnings are issued through the afternoon.
