Anytime a government employee causes, or may have caused the death of a citizen, an outside agency, meaning someone outside the county can which it occurred, and preferably outside of the state, should be the one that investigates it. The results of the investigation should be transparent and public because the employee is a public employee working for us, the citizens. Finally, we need to abolish qualified immunity. If a public employee kills or harms a person in the scope of their employment, whether intentionally or negligently, then we as, as a society, should bear the burden collectively to compensate that person or their family for the harm caused.

I’m having a total shoulder replacement surgery today. The last surgery I had, they dropped me off the operating table in the middle of surgery and I woke up in a CT scanner with people asking me if I could feel my legs and if I knew who was president. I am scared right now and trying to stay calm because I keep thinking what if I don’t wake up this time or what if they do something wrong again. I just wish they would get me into preop and give me something. I trust my doctor that is performing this surgery, but then again I trusted the doctors and staff that dropped me off the table too. I am feeling pretty vulnerable right now and I hate it.

*Update* - made it through surgery. Have a 2nd nerve block right now so able to text one handed. Sleeping mostly. Thank you all for the words of encouragement and prayers. Dreading the nerve block wearing off and the pain that I know is coming but glad the surgery is over.
