Souper Bowl of Caring on Saturday, February 10th at 5:00 pm.

This will be the first time holding this event since Covid hit in 2020 and the first Souper Bowl in the new building and we are very excited! Come hungry and be ready to sample some of the best dishes in town.

Yesterday, Wichita United Church of Christ traveled to Topeka to join hundreds of Kansans, including so many young people, to advocate for and speak with legislators about LGBTQIA2S+ equality. As the relentless legislative bigotry and harm continues to show up, days like this reveal a persistent hope and a bigger faith that we can choose to press towards.

Thanks to Kansas Interfaith Action for supporting us and other faith communities (many UCC folks there!) and helping us connect with legislators .
Thanks to Equality Kansas for organizing an impactful, loving, and welcoming day.

If you have been following Wichita UCC on Facebook for long, you know the last few years have been a whirlwind! You also likely know the kind of church we are and are becoming. You may watch and keep up-to-date from another state. You might be a member of another congregation or just a person of good will who believes in the kind of church we are striving to be. If so, now is the time. We need your support financially. And not only that, our congregation needs to hear from you. It is not always easy being a very different kind of church in Wichita. Your encouragement goes a long way.

Wichita UCC is the only United Church of Christ church in Wichita. We are also the only registered Open & Affirming congregation in Wichita, and one of very few congregations that fully affirms membership, cultivates leadership, and actively creates pathways of ordination for LGBTQIA2S+ people. In every part of our congregation, we believe that the call of God’s people is open to all who would respond. And we live out the call to be people who fight for justice and be active creators of a peaceable community.

If this kind of community is important to you, and if you recognize the importance of the witness this congregation is bringing to Wichita, now is the time to pitch in. Wichita UCC relaunched in March 2023 in our new building in South Wichita. It has been a long process with many struggles ranging from a global pandemic to delays and cost inflations during the remodel process.

Wichita UCC needs all the help our friends can give. We are not yet on a stable footing. People are returning and we are growing, but even in the best of times relaunching a church is difficult. The first couple of years are especially precarious. We need all the help our friends and followers can spare in order to press us over this rise. There is outreach needed to connect with people who are looking for a church like ours. There are projects to make our facility as usable and accessible for the community as possible. There are also just the regular operational needs that every church requires to be a base for ministry and mission.

Thank you for being a part of Wichita UCC. Thank you for helping where you can. Thanks be to God for all of it and so much more.

"If you have time, take a few moments to fill out this community needs survey. It’s very important for us to take the surveys due to the fact that this is one of the components which determines budget for what we want fixed a.k.a. like the sidewalk. The only question I had counsel about was the police training question or safety question and I was advised to mention that the Wichita police department is doing an “adequate job”, so they do not pour more funding into police. It is already sitting at 150 million or so while people are starving and dying in the streets."
