The word “hepatitis” describes an inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis comes in several different forms, the most common of which are brought on by viral infections. Below is a summary of the primary types:
1. Hepatitis A
- Most commonly transmitted by intimate contact with an infected person or by contaminated food or water.
- Fever, exhaustion, appetite loss, nausea, abdominal pain, dark urine and jaundice are some of the symptoms.
- In most cases, HAV does not result in chronic liver damage and, with supportive care, goes away on its own.
2. Hepatitis B
- Transmitted from mother to child during childbirth and by contact with contaminated blood and other bodily fluids.
- At first, symptoms may be slight or nonexistent, but they might result in persistent infection that raises the risk of liver failure, scarring of the liver, or liver cancer.
- There is a vaccine that offers a defense against HBV.
3. Hepatitis C
- It is mainly transmitted via blood-to-blood contact, such as while injecting narcotics and exchanging needles or other supplies.
- Although there may be no symptoms upon infection, a persistent infection can cause liver damage over several decades.
- HCV cannot be prevented, but efficient therapies can treat the virus.
4. Hepatitis D
- This virus is distinct because it can only spread to those with HBV infection.
- Contact with contaminated blood or other bodily fluids can spread HDV.
- More severe liver damage can result from a chronic HDV infection than from HBV alone.
5. Hepatitis E
- It is mainly transmitted through consuming contaminated water.
- Symptoms are similar to those of HAV, including jaundice, fatigue, nausea, and abdominal pain.
- Generally, HEV does not cause chronic liver disease except in pregnant women, where it can be more severe.

is about raising awareness of the harmful effects of UV rays and exposure. It can cause skin aging, wrinkles, and, in severe cases, skin cancer. It is important to note that UV is still apparent when temperatures are low or on a cloudy forecast, and wearing sunscreen is still recommended when it is not sunny.
UV safety is essential! Be sure to protect yourself this summer from the UV rays. ☀️
