“The Newman Bond” podcast recently featured senior Charles Morrison, who shared his transformative faith journey as a student at Newman University. Morrison was raised in a Protestant home and recalls his mother and grandmother’s strong Christian background. He also remembers attending church regularly in his younger years and how that “waned a little bit” later in life due to busy schedules. “I never had that understanding that your spiritual side is something you really need to feed and maintain, just like food, water and your hobbies,” Morrison said. “Your spiritual life is a necessary element of life.” Listen/watch the full episode: https://bit.ly/4bHAMPf

It’s no secret that it takes some guts to enter the medical field. That’s why family medicine physician Jaimie Fager ’14 presented "Non-medical skills that could save (or start) your medical career" to Newman students during a lunch event. Here's a few of Fager's biggest takeaways: 🎙️“Get to know yourself, your worldview and what your natural strengths and weaknesses are before entering the field.” 🎙️ “You have to be relentlessly curious because you’ll be learning new things every single minute.” 🎙️“Absolutely do not do medicine or healthcare for the money.” 🎙️ “Practice being uncomfortable and step outside of your comfort zone.” 🎙️“Be able to write, write creatively and in a way that people find interesting (particularly if you want to write the interesting books about medicine and have those interesting conversations with people).” Watch or listen to the full episode of “Newman Bond” podcast to hear more advice: https://bit.ly/4bIyuz8

Father Tom Welk Commencement Speech 2024
Father Tom Welk, Newman University's 2024 commencement speaker, shared that graduates will encounter God’s voice and life’s purpose through their actions and contributions — in their daily work. He said, “Hospice patients have taught me much about how to live my own life as fully as possible, enabling me to hear the voice of God. I think of the observation made by St. John Henry Newman: ‘I sought to hear the voice of God and climbed the topmost steeple, but God declared, Go down again, I dwell among the people.'” Read the full story: https://news.newmanu.edu/commencement-father-tom-welk/
