One day soon, what looks like stacked boxes with natural edge-banding, will reveal a very custom kitchen with multiple high-end finishes. Likely this will be our favorite kitchen creation once completed. Keep your eyes here for the future reveal.

1. Declutter! It's a game changer. Pick a room and go!

2. Update your winter bedding. Lose the darker winter tones and heavier weighted blankets in favor of lighter, brighter colors and fabrics.

4. House plants or a good Trader Joe's arrangement can really add life to a room.

5. A tad pricier but well worth considering is a new area rug. Ground your space with an all together new look.

Jamestown Beach home is in the process of a kitchen reface. Included in my scope, will be modernizing an area of cabinetry with a dated 80s stamp, getting rid of the "orange" stained oak cabinets doors and drawer fronts, and replacing them with new white upper cabinet doors and all the lower cabinets have a bold military blue! A fresh coat of paint on all the existing cabinet boxes will give new life to the heart of this families home! All new hinges and slides will seal the deal that this refresh is...FRESH!

Last is the flavorful sausage but I didn't get the vendor. If any locals know let me know and I'll add the tag. He was smoking up the sausage on site and gave me one of the best samples I've ever had!

FLASHBACK. 25 years ago I purchased this property and did a complete overhaul including swapping the location of the kitchen with the primary bathroom and adding a finished basement. It's since been updated but my underlying architecture and floorplan has stood the test of time, along with my woodwork.

My wife and I celebrated our marriage in this living room and welcomed our firstborn Nick in this home. We sold this home to the drummer from Sugar Ray in 1999. All the Rockstars live in Laurel Canyon (the musicians canyon as it's known locally) and there was no better place to live in that season of our life!

New Kent bathroom remodel. This exceptional client came very prepared. They had prepurchased many of the items but needed a contractor to complete their vision. JEWEL BOX HOMES provided a complete demo taking the bathroom down to a box and rebuilding from the plywood to the finished sparkle. The pre-fab shower needed to be modified to include the window creating a waterproof seal. A late addition was to add a fireplace at the foot of the bathtub. Wonderful clients make for a great working experience.

Side project in Denver, Jo Malone London. Inheriting an empty store front at Cherry Creek Shopping Center in Denver, during the winter was ...cool? I was grateful to have competent teams and excellent distribution of materials. One exception, I had to fire the painter in the first hour and pick up my paint brush. The sweet final tide line (the crisp black/white paint technique) is all mine. Proud of this beautiful retail store.

Estee Lauder executive was thrilled with the timing and delivery of this stunning store. I was told my store was the best, cleanest, and prettiest store.

The evolution JEWEL BOX HOMES. As a young man growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I watched my father, the hardest working man I've ever known provide well for his family, and I suppose - hard work became a natural part of my ethic.

I left home at 19 to pursue a career in rock and roll. But in order to eat, I learned to swing that hammer. I quickly learned I had a gift for fine finish woodworking.

I have been blessed to work for many exceptiono contracting companies. Space Builders and Turning Point Construction "laid the groundwork" for me becoming the skilled craftsman I am today. Kirby Perkins invited me across the nation to work on the greatest project of my career thus far.

Wirkkala Woodworks was a 16 year successful General Contracting business in Hollywood Hills and Orange County CA.
