Meet Sydney! 🎓 Sydney is an Occupational Therapy doctoral student at Midwestern University, and she’s on a mission to make haircuts more comfortable for kids who struggle with sensory sensitivities. “Midwestern University’s Occupational Therapy program is designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in a variety of healthcare settings. It emphasizes a hands-on, client-centered approach, integrating evidence-based practice with a focus on human occupation and well-being.”

✨ What’s your goal for this project?
“To help children who struggle with receiving haircuts and other salon services have the most comfortable experience possible! I want to achieve this by providing education and strategies to parents and hair stylists from an occupational therapy perspective.”

✨ Why does this matter to you?
“It addresses an often-overlooked challenge that can significantly impact a child’s well-being and daily life. By helping children who struggle with sensory sensitivities or anxiety during haircuts, you’re not only making a stressful experience more manageable but also improving their overall sense of comfort and confidence. Plus, hair care is a big part of my identity too!”

“Trying different cafes around Chicago!”

“I love matcha, so I make myself a cup almost every day!”
