Yesterday, the City of Wilmington hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the MLK Center Expansion. Sawyer Sherwood and Associate Architecture are working with Clancy & Theys to provide an expansion that will include a high school regulation sized basketball court and a commercial kitchen to serve the community. The facility is expected to open in Spring 2025. We are honored to have a hand in expanding on such a vital asset to our community!

Things are going to start looking a little different at SEA-Tech High School ! Construction begins this month on a new shop building that will become the home base for the Construction Trades program, with renovations to the existing lobby and teaching kitchen to follow later this year. We are thrilled to assist New Hanover County Schools and Uhl, Inc. in completing a facility that will introduce construction skills and trades to the next generation of students.

Monday evening's ground-breaking ceremony at Portia Mills Hines Park kicks off construction! Improvements to the park include a new restroom building, site lighting, and new sidewalks to better serve the surrounding neighborhood.

Major interior renovations continue at the Brunswick County Courthouse. The renovated courthouse and new annex addition will be ready to serve citizens in full in the spring of 2022.

Snapshots from our office walk-through of Ogden Elementary as the school gears up for the new year. After 14 years of operation, the building is still in excellent condition thanks to durable materials and rigorous maintenance by NHCS staff. We were delighted by the artwork displayed in the hallways that brings the building to life.

A perfect day to celebrate the opening of our new gymnasium addition to the Derick G.S. Davis Center! Remarks from Wilmington City Council Memeber Clifford Barnett and Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo welcomed the public to the building with a much-deserved fanfare.

The rededication of New Hanover County Fire Station 12 was a long time coming after the damage suffered during Hurricane Florence, which necessitated extensive renovations. We are honored to have been a part of restoring and upgrading this critical facility for those who dedicate their lives to serving our community.

Brunswick County Media Release: Bolivia, NC – Elected officials, community leaders and citizens came out Monday afternoon to celebrate Brunswick County’s newest senior center, the Brunswick Center at Leland, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and facility tours.

The new, two-story center is approximately triple the size of the older, smaller building it replaces, with more room for classes and activities for seniors, as well as space that can be rented by the community. Built on land provided by the Town of Leland, the new center is near the Leland Library, Leland Town Hall, Leland Municipal Park, and Leland Police Department.

“Public transportation already carries citizens here,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman and District 5 Commissioner Frank Williams, adding that the center’s location near existing facilities and offices would help residents find the center easily and comfortably. “We’re excited to see it finally come to fruition.”

The Brunswick Center at Leland is another step forward to having a senior center in each county district, said Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc. President and CEO Jim Fish. It joins similar facilities in Southport and Shallotte, with a fourth soon to open in Supply. There are also seven senior sites throughout the county.

The new center will also be able to more than double the number of lunch meals offered per day, with the ability for meals to be prepared on site, and it will serve as a pick up location for Meals on Wheels drivers.

“Brunswick County is unique in that approximately 32 percent of our population is over the age of 65, compared to about 16 percent statewide,” Williams said. “This will also be of great use to those who aren’t as well off as some, with Meals on Wheels and offering consultation for health insurance. It’s a wonderful resource for the community.”
