Letâs give it up for our rookies this season!
Each and every one of them have been a great asset to our team & we couldnât imagine this past season without them!

Maddie is from Virginia Beach, VA and will graduate in May with a Bachelorâs of Science in Business Administration with concentration in Marketing Strategy along and a minor in Psychology. During her time at UNCW she has achieved Deanâs List for multiple semesters, served as Vice President of Public Relations for Pi Sigma Epsilon the Marketing and Sales Professional Fraternity, has been a three year member of Phi Mu Fraternity, worked as a Group Fitness Instructor at the UNCW Recreation Center, and has not only been a four year member of the dance team but also served as a captain this past season. After graduation Maddie hopes to move to Charlotte to start her career in Marketing (she is open to network & feel free to connect with her on LinkedIn đ). She also hopes to continue teaching cycle classes and sharing her passion for health and fitness with others. Here is what Maddie had to say when asked what she is most thankful for from being on the team: âI am incredibly thankful for the ability to continue dancing in college. This team has been my rock since Freshman year, has taught me many life lessons and given me many memories that I will carry on with me throughout my life. I have truly met some of my best friends because of Hawtie Hawks.â Maddieâs advice for incoming freshman is to take it slow! These four years go by even faster than high school and itâs easy to get caught up in the hustle of it all and thinking about your future. Take a deep breath, realize youâre exactly where youâre supposed to be and that these ARE the good ole days. She would like to thank her family and coaches for always believing in her, even when she didnât believe in her self. Maddie would also like to give a special shoutout to her best friend Brooke who has been cheering her name at every game since Freshman year.

When asked about what she was most thankful for from being on the team, here is what she had to say: âIâm most thankful for being able to continue my childhood dream of dancing in college, but Iâm extremely grateful for this team because itâs introduced me to some of my lifelong best friends.â Jayaâs advice for incoming freshman is to be present and appreciative of where you are and how far youâve come, 4 years go by a lot faster than anyone anticipates and a lot changes within that time so itâs important to be patient with yourself and the growth that you have coming but to also recognize it and be proud of yourself. Jaya would like to thank her parents for being her biggest supporters and her coaches and teammates for always being a constant support group no matter the circumstances.

She would like to give a special thanks to both her mom and dad, because they have been the biggest support system and have helped her continue to pursue her passion for dance.
Lauren is from Winston-Salem, NC and will graduate in May with a Bachelorâs of Arts in Elementary Education with a concentration in Behavioral Studies. When asked what she loves the most about being on the team, here is what she had to say: âOut of the many things I love about dance team, the friendships formed within the team has by far been one of my favorites. I am so thankful for all the support, love, and encouragement we all share among each other.â A piece of advice Lauren has for incoming freshman is to focus on things day by day and to appreciate all the opportunities you have in college. The years FLY by, so be sure to treasure the time you have here at UNCW. Lauren would like to give a special thanks to her mom and dad for their continuous love and support.
Paige is from Cary, NC and will graduate in May with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. During her time at UNCW she has achieved Deanâs List every semester, is the current President of the Association of Nursing Students, a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, and has not only been a member of the Dance Team for four years but has served us as one of our captains this season. Paige has accepted a position at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC and will be working in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit starting in July! Dance is a large part of who I am, and the friendships I have made on this team have shaped me into who I have become. I am honored to know and love every single girl on this team and will miss it immensely!â Paigeâs advice to incoming freshman is to be open! Donât hold onto people or things that no longer serve your happiness and well-being. Stay open to new experiences, new people, and new places and you will have the best college experience. She would like to thank her mom and dad for being so supportive throughout my years at UNCW. They are her biggest fans and she couldnât have done it without them.
Sydney is from Raleigh, NC and will graduate this May with a Bachelorâs of Arts in Film Studies with a minor in Digital Arts. During her time at UNCW Sydney has earned Deanâs List every semester, worked as the Social Content Assistant for the Alumni Association for three years, and completed two different internships. One being at Trailblazers Studios in Raleigh and the second at Lighthouse Films in Wilmington. She has animated a short film that has been selected to screen at Cucalorus Film Festival and Uptilt Film Festival. Sydney is also a member of the Hubert A. Eaton Honor Society and has been nominated for two cornerstone awards: The Pat Leonard Senior Medallion and the Distinguished Engagement Award. She plans to pursue a career in post production with the hopes of bringing diverse representation to the screen of kids. When asked what she loves most about being on the team, this is what Sydney has to say: âI have loved how welcoming all the girls have been to me. In an environment thatâs hard to fit in, Iâm so lucky to have found a safe place in this team.â A piece of advice she has for incoming freshman is that transitioning into college is hard, but it will get easier! Trust the process.
