For nearly 30 years Sonya has been the backbone of the Community Counseling Center. This month we would like to shine a light on our amazing office manager. Get to know Sonya a little better with a Q&A below:
Q: What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?
A: Love what you do, believe in what you and who you are doing it for! Your career needs to be a place you are willing to give your heart and soul, your sweat and tears, much like you do for your family.
Q: What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?
A: Something you may not know...I take pride in my personal life, but sometimes you have to let go. That being said, one of my favorite things to do is four-wheeling. I love to get muddy! The muddier I am the more fun I am having.
Q: What’s a cause that you are passionate about?
A: I enjoy working with the local Domestic Violence Shelter. For 15 years I have been making individual gift bags for Christmas for each mother who has been a part of the shelter during the year. I started doing this when I first volunteered at one of the Christmas events. I realized the kids were getting all the gifts and attention and I wanted to make sure the Mothers were never left out again and it gave them a reason to smile even for a little while. For the past 2 years, I have started collecting and donating items throughout the year for items needed regularly.
Q: What’s your favorite memory from working at the company?
A: I would say that some of my favorite memories are of the Center's events. It is a wonderful time for past board members and friends of the Center to come to an event reconnect with staff meet new board members and see all the changes the Center has made since they were on the board. We have made so many wonderful connections to the people in the community and it is amazing the longevity of those friendships.
Thank you to everyone who supported us during this voting cycle. We are grateful for your support in this critical work we do. We wouldn't be the Community Counseling Center without you.
